  1. 6. Hematopoietic stem cells: c-mpl and TNF receptor function

    Författare :Veslemøy Ramsfjell; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tumor necrosis factor-a.; in vivo reconstitution; ex vivo expansion; long-term bone marrow culture; differentiation; proliferation; synergy; Hematopoietic stem cells; thrombopoietin; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) are crucial to life. Daily and throughout the life span of an individual they are responsible for replacing approximately 10(12) mature blood cells. Mature cells are, for example, required for transportation of oxygen, defense against infections and to stop bleeding. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Development of in vitro and ex vivo positron-emitting tracer techniques and their application to neurotrauma

    Författare :Sven Sihver; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Short-lived radionuclides; in vitro receptor binding; in vitro and ex vivo autoradiography; positron emission tomography; benzodiazepine; muscarinic acetylcholine; and NMDA receptors in CNS; experimental neurotrauma; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : The use of positron-emitting tracers has been extended beyond tomographic facilities in the last few years, giving rise to a general positron-emitting tracing technique. The methodological part of the present thesis involved the evaluation of the performance of storage phosphor (SP) plates, with tracers labeled with high-energy, short-lived, positron-emitting radionuclides, using homogenized tissue specimens and autoradiography with frozen brain sections. 3. 8. Development of a New Biomechanical ex vivo Perfusion System - Studies on effects of biomechanical and inflammatory stress on hemostatic genes in human vascular endothelium

    Författare :Niklas Bergh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ex vivo perfusion system; biomechanical; endothelium; shear stress; tensile stress; pulsatile; TNF-α; JNK; hemostatic genes;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is a multifunctional interface constantly exposed to biomechanical forces such as shear and tensile stress. Biomechanical stress is involved in the pathophysiological process of the vessel wall and thus affects vascular remodeling, atherosclerosis and thrombogenesis. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Adoptive T Cell Therapy of Viral Infection and Cancer : Ex vivo Expansion of Cytomegalovirus- and Prostate Antigen-specific T Cells

    Författare :Björn Carlsson; Magnus Essand; Thomas Tötterman; Malcolm Brenner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunotherapy; Adoptive T cell therapy; Dendritic cell; T cell; Tetramer; Cytomegalovirus; Transplantation; pp65; Prostate cancer; TARP; Prostate antigens; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : The main focus of my thesis has been to develop protocols for generating antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and T helper cells (TH) for adoptive transfer to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease and prostate cancer. CMV viremia is a severe complication in immunocompromised stem cell transplanted patients. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Characterization of antigen-presenting cell function in vitro and ex vivo

    Författare :Pablo Giusti; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Stefania Varani; David Roberts; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Antigen presentation; Dendritic Cells; Macrophages; Toll-like receptors; Malaria; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Long-term protective immunity depends on proper initiation of professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs). Autoimmune disorders and certain infections can cause disease through modulation of APCs and thereby affecting the outcome of these diseases. LÄS MER
