  1. 6. Mitochondrial Evolution : Turning Bugs into Features

    Författare :Olof Karlberg; Siv Andersson; Michael Gray; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The bacterial origin of mitochondria from an ancient endosymbiosis is now widely accepted and the mitochondrial ancestor is generally believed to belong to the bacterial subdivision α-proteobacteria. The high fraction of mitochondrial proteins encoded in the nucleus has commonly been explained with a massive transfer of genes from the genome of the ancestral mitochondrion. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Expanding the Chlamydiae tree : Insights into genome diversity and evolution

    Författare :Jennah E. Dharamshi; Thijs J. G. Ettema; Alexander Probst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PVC superphylum; Chlamydiae; chlamydia; intracellular; symbiosis; endosymbiont; pathogen; marine sediment; sponge microbiome; metagenomics; uncultured microbial diversity; phylogenomics; microbial evolution; eukaryote evolution; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Chlamydiae is a phylum of obligate intracellular bacteria. They have a conserved lifecycle and infect eukaryotic hosts, ranging from animals to amoeba. Chlamydiae includes pathogens, and is well-studied from a medical perspective. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Experimental Evolution : and Fitness Effects of Mutations

    Författare :Anna Knöppel; Dan I Andersson; Stanley Maloy; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria have small, streamlined genomes and evolve rapidly. Their large population sizes allow selection to be the main driver of evolution. With advances in sequencing technologies and precise methods for genetic engineering, many bacteria are excellent models for studying elementary questions in evolutionary biology. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Evolution of Vertebrate Endocrine and Neuronal Gene Families : Focus on Pituitary and Retina

    Författare :Daniel Ocampo Daza; Dan Larhammar; Marc Robinson-Rechavi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :phylogenetics; evolution; molecular evolution; gene family evolution; genome duplication; gene duplication; oxytocin receptor; vasopressin receptor; visual opsin; transducin; growth hormone; prolactin; somatolactin; growth hormone receptor; prolactin receptor; somatostatin receptor; SSTR; IGFBP; evolution; molekylär evolution; fylogeni;

    Sammanfattning : The duplication of genes followed by selection is perhaps the most prominent way in which molecular biological systems gain multiplicity, diversity and functional complexity in evolution. Whole genome duplications (WGDs) therefore have the potential of generating an extraordinary amount of evolutionary innovation. LÄS MER

  5. 10. The Evolution of a New(s) Genre

    Författare :Carina Ihlström Eriksson; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Online newspapers; Genre; Evolution; Design; Audience; Publishers; Information technology; Informationsteknik; online newspapers; genre; evolution; design; audience; publishers;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes and analyzes how the online newspaper genre has evolved since its inception on the Internet in the mid-nineties. The overall research question is: What characterizes the online newspaper genre evolution? The thesis is based on both synchronic and diachronic studies with a multimethod approach (including six different studies involving, e. LÄS MER
