  1. 1. Defect Formation during Solidification in Grey Iron Castings

    Författare :Lennart Elmquist; Ingvar Svensson; Attila Diószegi; Doru Stefanescu; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shrinkage Porosity; Grey Iron; Solidification; Nucleation; Primary Austenite; DAAS; Eutectic Cells; Microstructure; Macrostructure; Hot Spot; Oxygen; Hydrogen; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of defects is of major concern in the production of grey iron castings. Some defects are merely an aesthetic problem while others can be detrimental for the performance of the component. Among the several possible defects, shrinkage porosity is one of the more challenging to understand and avoid. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On microstructure formation and mechanical properties in grey cast iron

    Författare :Attila Diószegi; Preben N. Hansén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :grey iron; nucleation; primary austenite; eutectic cell; growth rate; inoculation; thermal analysis; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : A major user of cast components is the automotive industry, where the functionality of the components is related to environmental demands. Internal combustion engines are constantly being improved to emit less pollution. A vital part in this development is to increase the material properties of engine components during their life cycle. 3. 3. Effects of surfactant adjuvants on plant leaf cuticle barrier properties

    Författare :Anton Fagerström; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :Adjuvant; Surfacant; Cuticle; Tebuconazole; Diffusion; Clivia miniata Regel leaf; Model wax; Phase diagram; Hydration; Eutectic melting; Crystalline domains; Softening; Wax film; Quartz Crystal Microbalance with dissipation QCM-D ; Differential Scanning Calorimetry DSC ; Small- and Wide-angle X-ray Diffraction SWAXD ;

    Sammanfattning : I avhandlingen undersöks växelverkan mellan det yttersta lagret på växters blad (cutikeln), aktiva substanser, och ämnen som tillsätts för att öka bekämpningsmedlens effekt, i detta fall vissa former av tensider. Barriären som hindrar upptag av främmande ämnen i växten sitter i cutikeln. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Metal Expansion Penetration During Solidification of Grey Cast Iron

    Författare :Izudin Dugic; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Grey cast iron; solidification; solidification modelling; graphite expansion; molar volume; casting simulation; thennal analysis; thermoanalysis cup; casting temperature; inoculation; inoculant; meta! expansion penetration; eutectic cell size.; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : The meta! expansion penetration has been examined experimentally. The whole casting process was simulated using a commercial software, in order to investigate the solidification characteristics and the pore formation in the casting studied. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On the Volume Changes during the Solidification of Cast Irons and Peritectic Steels

    Författare :Abel Tadesse; Michael Vynnycky; Hasse Fredriksson; Jacques Lacaze; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Volume changes; Solidification; Peritectic steel; Micro- and Macro-shrinkage; LVDT; GCI; NCI; Hypo- and Hypereutectic; Austenite; DTA; Dilatometry; BSE; Nuclei; Flake graphite; SDAS; Eutectic cells; Undercooled graphite; Simulation; Cooling rate; Microsegregation; austenite; Metastable region; δ-ferrite; Stable phase diagram; Grain refinement; Strain.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis work deals with the volume changes during the solidification of cast irons and peritectic steels. The volume changes in casting metals are related to the expansion and/or contraction of the molten metal during solidification. Often, different types of shrinkage, namely macro- and micro-shrinkage, affect the casting quality. LÄS MER
