11. Functional Dendritic Materials using Click Chemistry : Synthesis, Characterizations and Applications
12. Phenyl Trifluoromethyl Sulfone as Diluent in a Grouped ActiNide EXtraction Process
Sammanfattning : The demand for electricity and electrical energy is very high both in Sweden and in the other industrialised countries in the world. An upgrade of the nuclear power plants, including recycling of the used nuclear fuel, would make nuclear power a sustainable energy option. Over the years different types of nuclear reactors have been developed. LÄS MER
13. Synthesis, Surface Modification, and Characterization of Metal Oxide Nanoparticles : Nanoprobes for Signal Enhancement in Biomedical Imaging
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we investigate crystalline metal oxide nanoparticles of our own design to obtain nanoprobes for signal enhancement and bioimaging purposes. We report fabrication, surface modification and characterization of nanoparticles based on zinc (Zn), and rare earths (i.e. gadolinium (Gd) and europium (Eu)) singly and in combination. LÄS MER
14. Light-Matter Interaction and Quantum Computing in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Crystals
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, crystals of yttrium orthosilicate (Y2SiO5) that are randomly doped with another rare-earth element, such as praseodymium (Pr), europium (Eu), or cerium (Ce), are investigated with lasers locked to ultra-stable cavities using the Pound-Drever-Hall locking technique. Many of these rare-earth elements have long-lived 4f-4f transitions, hundreds of microseconds to a few milliseconds, with even longer ground hyperfine lifetimes of up to several days. LÄS MER
15. Nuclear spin interactions and coherent control in rare-earth-ion-doped crystals for quantum computing
Sammanfattning : This thesis work concerns studies of two rare-earth-ions, praseodymium (Pr3+) and europium (Eu3+), doped into a yttrium orthosilicate (Y2SiO5) crystal for applications in quantum computing. The nuclear spin levels of these ions can have very long coherence times, up to several hours. LÄS MER
