11. To be together or not to be together : Ca. 100 million years of evolutionary history of the earliest divergent Frankia clade
Sammanfattning : Root nodule symbiosis evolved ca. 100 Mya between a nitrogen-fixing bacterium and the common ancestor to the Fabales, Fagales, Rosales, and Cucurbitales plant orders. Over time the majority of the lineages derived from this ancestor lost their symbiotic capability. LÄS MER
12. Geography and geometry of pre-Caledonian western Baltica: U-Pb geochronology and Palaeomagnetism
Sammanfattning : In an attempt to reconstruct the pre-Caledonian cratonic margin of Fennoscandia, U-Pb geochronological and geochemical investigations have been performed on allochthonous orthogneisses in the northern Swedish Caledonides. The crystalline basement of the nappes have also been examined to further constrain the continuation of various chronologically defined orogenic belts. LÄS MER
13. Evolutionary History of the Root Vole (Microtus oeconomus) as Revealed by Y Chromosome and Mitochondrial DNA sequences
Sammanfattning : The root vole (Microtus oeconomus) is a rodent with Holarctic distribution. In fact, it is the only Microtus vole found in both Eurasia and North America. Phylogeographic analyses of the root vole from across its distribution range were performed using mitochondrial and Y chromosome DNA sequences. LÄS MER
14. Following the herd : Population genetics of European sheep in time and space
Sammanfattning : Sheep, which were domesticated in the Fertile Crescent about 10,000-12,000 years ago, have been a key resource for human populations ever since. We, however, know little about how they were domesticated, and what happened to them after their initial expansion from their domestication area into all corners of Eurasia and later Africa and the Americas. 15. Aspects of carnivoran evolution in Africa
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the evolution of African small carnivorans, with emphasis on East African Viverridae and Herpestidae (Carnivora, Mammalia). Viverridae and Herpestidae are two Old World feliform (belonging to the cat branch) carnivoran families with a confusing, and sometimes even misleading, taxonomic and systematic history, in addition to a scarce fossil record.
