1. RUNX1/AML1 functions and mechanisms regulating granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor transcription
Sammanfattning : Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a multipotent cytokine involved in the production and function of hematopoietic cells, and GM-CSF plays in particular a major role in responses to infection and physiological and pathological inflammatory processes. GM-CSF is produced in many cell types, and increases in the intracellular Ca2+ concentration are, like in many other systems, of major importance in the intracellular signaling that determines GM-CSF expression after receptor stimulation of the cells. 2. The regulatory role of microRNA in human adipocytes and their link to insulin resistance
Sammanfattning : White adipose tissue (WAT) is a highly plastic organ which secretes a large number of peptide factors termed adipokines. Increased caloric intake increases WAT mass which results in marked alterations in the secretory pattern. This may be mediated via both transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms. LÄS MER
3. Novel Circulating and Tissue Biomarkers for Small Intestine Neuroendocrine Tumors and Lung Carcinoids
Sammanfattning : Small intestine neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) and lung carcinoids (LCs) are relatively indolent tumors, which originate from neuroendocrine (NE) cells of the diffuse NE system. Metastases can spread before diagnosis. Thus, potential cures become unavailable, which entitles new biomarker development. LÄS MER
4. Interleukin 15 throughout murine natural killer cell biology
Sammanfattning : Natural killer (NK) cells are innate immune cells that mount responses against virally infected, transformed and allogeneic transplanted cells. Equipped with cytolytic molecules and death receptors, NK cells mediate cytotoxicity against cells expressing low levels of MHC class I (MHC-I) or high levels of stress-induced molecules. LÄS MER
5. A microcell hybrid based 'elimination test' in the search for malignancy related genes
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the elimination test developed by us (Imreh et al, 1994). The elimination test was designed as a functional test for malignancy related gene identification. Its task is to follow the cytogenetic and molecular alterations on single normal chromosomes transferred into tumor cells. LÄS MER
