  1. 1. Ethanol from lignocellulose : Management of by-products of hydrolysis

    Författare :Björn Alriksson; J Leif Jönsson; Vincent Eijsink; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ethanol; Lignocellulose; Detoxification; Genetic engineering; Enzyme production; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Fuel ethanol can be produced from lignocellulosic materials, such as residues from agriculture and forestry. The polysaccharides of lignocellulose are converted to sugars by hydrolysis and the sugars can then be fermented to ethanol using microorganisms. However, during hydrolysis a wide range of by-products are also generated. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ethanol from woodCellulase enzyme production

    Författare :Zsolt Szengyel; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical technology and engineering; FPA measurement; acetic acid; furfural; non-volatile; volatile; inhibition; pH; carbon source; liquid; solid; softwood; hardwood; cellulases; production; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Conversion of biomass to liquid fuels, such as ethanol, has been investigated during the past decades. First due to the oil crisis of the 1970s and lately because of concerns about greenhouse effect, ethanol has been found to be a suitable substitute for gasoline in transportation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ethanol from lignocellulose : physiological effects of inhibitors and fermentation strategies

    Författare :Mohammad J Taherzadeh; Chalmers Univ of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acetic acid; Agents; Cellulose; Enzyme inhibition; Feedback control; Fermentation; Hydrolysis; Metabolites; pH; Physiology; Wood; Yeast; Dilute acid hydrolyzate; Inhibitors; Lignocellulose; Physiological effects; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Ethanol;

    Sammanfattning : Fermentative ethanol production from dilute-acid hydrolyzates of wood using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. Of known inhibitors in hydrolyzates, acetic acid, furfural and hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) were found in the highest concentrations (up to about 10 g/l). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Frame Analysis in Environmental Conflicts : The case of ethanol production in Brazil

    Författare :Ester Galli; Ronald Wennersten; Tom Dwyer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brazil; biodiversity; biofuel; CO2 emissions; environmental conflict; ethanol; frame; frame analysis; land use change; sugarcane; sugarcane cutters; sustainable energy;

    Sammanfattning : Governments and policy-makers are currently dealing with some key issues as energy security in countries dependent on oil imports; global economic development, including increased food production; and controlling global climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. The perception that biofuel could solve these challenges simultaneously has led to the implementation of policy and regulatory mechanisms on the mandatory use of biofuels, resulting in a sharp increase in biofuel production and consumption. Sammanfattning : Sweden has claimed that it wants to have a fossil-free vehicle fleet in 2030 as a milestone of its ambitious goal for 2050 to be a country with a sustainable and resource-efficient energy supply without any net GHG emissions. Production of bioethanol from plant materials is one potential method of meeting this goal. LÄS MER
