  1. 1. Fundamental Experimental and Numerical Investigation Focusing on the Initial Stage of a Top-Blown Converter Process

    Författare :Mikael Ersson; Pär Jönsson; Stein-Tore Johanssen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; numerical modeling; top-blown converter; BOF; CFD; Thermodynamics; slag; dynamic simulations; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work is to increase the knowledge of phenomena taking place during the initial stage in a top blown converter. The work has been done in a few steps resulting in four different supplements. Water model experiments have been carried out using particle image velocimetry (PIV) technology. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Conditions for resource-efficient production of biofuels for transport in Sweden

    Författare :Carolina Ersson; Mats Eklund; Jonas Ammenberg; Mikael Lantz; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Transportation has continued to increase worldwide and fossil-fuel dependency is strong which leads to a number of problems, e.g. increased emissions of green-house gases (GHG) and risks related to energy security. Biofuels have until now been one of the few renewable alternatives which have been able to replace fossil fuels on a large scale. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Study of pyrolysis and gasification of biomass from the self-organization perspective

    Författare :Aliaksandr Alevanau; Ersson Mikael; Weihong Yang; Pär Jönsson; Sylwester Kalisz; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pyrolisys; pellets; hydrogen; gasification; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the analysis of kinetics of i) low-temperature pyrolysis of gaseous hydrocarbons, ii) high-temperature steam gasification of char of wood pellets (>700oC), iii) high temperature pyrolysis of straw pellets in an atmosphere of argon and steam, and iv) high temperature pyrolysis of slices of transversally cut wooden sticks. The results of the kinetic measurements in the high-temperature cases are approximated using a least-square based optimization software, which was specially developed to analyse kinetics prone for deviation from the Arrhenius law. 4. 4. Model Developments to Study Some Aspects of Improving Efficiencies in EAF Plants

    Författare :Niloofar Arzpeyma; Mikael Ersson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate some aspects of improvements with respect to the energy consumption and raw material selection as well as the understanding of the influence of uncertainties on the performance in electric arc furnace (EAF) plants. The effect of electromagnetic stirring on the scrap melting and post combustion capacity are investigated in two EAFs by using computation fluid dynamic (CFD) models. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A Study of the Swirling Flow Pattern when Using TurboSwirl in the Casting Process

    Författare :Haitong Bai; Mikael Ersson; Pär Jönsson; Yogeshwar Sahai; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flow pattern; swirling flow; TurboSwirl; CFD; turbulence models; water model; flödesmönster; roterandeflöde; TurboSwirl; CFD; turbulensmodeller; vattenmodell; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The use of a swirling flow can provide a more uniform velocity distribution and a calmer filling condition according to previous studies of both ingot and continuous casting processes of steel. However, the existing swirling flow generation methods developed in last decades all have some limitations. LÄS MER
