    Sammanfattning : It has been argued that for the management of complex issues such as sustainability, which transcend traditional policy sectors and require coordination between several different interests and actors, policymaking depends upon collaboration and integration processes between different sectors and tiers of government. The overall aim of this thesis is therefore to study how and why (or why not) policy integration processes are being developed in regional policymaking and what this means for the achievement of sustainable transport. 2. 2. Towards a Sustainable Resource Management : A Broader Systems Approach to Product Design and Waste Management

    Författare :Jagdeep Singh; Björn Frostell; William Hogland; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Resource Management; Product Design; Waste Management Challenges; Systems Thinking; Sustainability Science; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi; Resource Management;

    Sammanfattning : Rapid economic growth, urbanisation and increasing population have caused (materially intensive) resource consumption to increase, and consequently the release of large amounts of waste to the environment. Numerous technological and operational approaches to resource management have been introduced throughout the system of production, consumption and waste management. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Re-viewing industrial energy-efficiency improvement using a widened system boundary

    Författare :Svetlana Paramonova; Patrik Thollander; Mats Söderström; Stefan Grönkvist; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Improved energy efficiency in industry is important for reaching the targets within the EU strategy for increased sustainability. However, energy efficiency is not always prioritised within companies, and the improvement potential remains large. This paradox called an energyefficiency gap is explained by energy-efficiency barriers. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Information, systems and water management : Information systems which support water management - cases from rural water supply in Uganda and WFD implementation in the North Baltic River Basin District, Sweden

    Författare :Andrew Quin; Berit Balfors; Jos G. Timmerman; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; information support; actors; water management; organisational action; Soft Systems Methodology;

    Sammanfattning : Successfulwater management implies tackling multi-level governance and improvingintegration between sectors. Sound information and related processes will berequired to support water management decision-making at these various levels. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Beyond Waste Management

    Författare :Jagdeep Singh; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sustainable global physical resource management; global waste management; systems thinking; life cycle thinking; planning framework; global environmental justice; circular economy;

    Sammanfattning : Current physical resource management (PRM) was investigated in a global perspective in this thesis, to gain a deeper understanding of its implications in a sustainability perspective. In particular, the main challenges to the current PRM system and the kinds of systemic changes needed for sustainable PRM were examined. LÄS MER
