1. ARSENIC REMOVAL BY PHYTOFILTRATION AND SILICON TREATMENT : A POTENTIAL SOLUTION FOR LOWERING ARSENIC CONCENTRATIONS IN FOOD CROPS
Sammanfattning : Use of arsenic-rich groundwater for crop irrigation can increase the arsenic (As) content in food crops and act as a carcinogen, compromising human health. Using aquatic plant based phytofiltration is a potential eco-technique for removing arsenic from water. LÄS MER
2. Factors influencing emission fluxes and bacterial enrichment in sea spray aerosols : Insights from laboratory and field studies
Sammanfattning : Sea spray aerosol (SSA) is one of the major natural aerosol sources and is produced when wave breaking entrains air into ocean surface water, which subsequently breaks up into bubbles. These bubbles rise to the surface and can scavenge biogenic material. LÄS MER
3. Insights into key processes governing atmospheric aerosol loadings and their interactions with clouds
Sammanfattning : Aerosol particles are ubiquitous in the atmosphere and an essential part of the atmospheric radiation balance regulating the Earth’s temperature. Aerosol-cloud interaction still remains the largest single uncertainty in future climate projections. In addition, aerosols are also responsible for air pollution, causing severe health effects. 4. Oxidation of terpenes in indoor environments : A study of influencing factors
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the oxidation of monoterpenes by O3 and NO2 and factors that influenced the oxidation were studied. In the environment both ozone (O3) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) are present as oxidising gases, which causes sampling artefacts when using Tenax TA as an adsorbent to sample organic compounds in the air. 5. Transport of perfluoroalkyl acids from the ocean to the atmosphere via sea spray aerosol
Sammanfattning : Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are a subgroup of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that have been widely used in commercial and industrial applications. PFAAs are very persistent in the environment and some can bioaccumulate and have adverse health effects on human health. LÄS MER
