  1. 21. Impact of the gut microflora on the digestive system in the suckling rat

    Författare :Frida Fåk; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; probiotics; prebiotics; antibiotics; lactobacilli; bacteria; intestinal permeability; Small intestine; maturation; weaning; suckling;

    Sammanfattning : The postnatal development of the gastrointestinal (GI) system in mammals is genetically programmed, but is, to an unknown extent, regulated by external factors such as the diet and the gut microflora. These factors can influence the growth of the GI tract, the age-related pattern of appearance of digestive enzymes and the decreased intestinal macromolecular permeability at gut closure, normally timed with weaning in young rodents. 2. 22. Colonic Diverticulitis : Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects

    Författare :Abbas Chabok; Kenneth Smedh; Tom Öresland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of colonic diverticulitis. In the first study, a systematic review of the literature was performed to evaluate radiological diagnostics for patients with acute left-sided diverticulitis. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Mechanisms and Dynamics of Carbapenem Resistance in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Marlen Adler; Linus Sandegren; Josep Casadesús; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbapenem; antibiotic resistance; fitness cost; ESBLs; penicillin-binding proteins; gene amplification;

    Sammanfattning : The emergence of extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) producing Enterobacteriaceae worldwide has led to an increased use of carbapenems and may drive the development of carbapenem resistance. Existing mechanisms are mainly due to acquired carbapenemases or the combination of ESBL-production and reduced outer membrane permeability. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Effects of Dietary Fibre and Probiotics on Hindgut Fermentation in Healthy Rats and in Rats with Dextran Sulphate Sodium-Induced Colitis and Colon Cancer

    Författare :Camilla Bränning; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carboxylic acids; probiotics; short-chain fatty acids; hindgut fermentation; Colonic health; prebiotics; microbiota; dietary fibre;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of colonic fermentation has been realised during recent years as it has been found to be associated with colonic health and thus the overall health of the individual. The fermentation of dietary fibre and the addition of probiotics can have positive effects on the luminal environment and the colonic microbiota. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Acute Liver Injury and the Gut. Role of Nitric Oxide, and the Effect of Arginine and Probiotic Administration

    Författare :Diya Adawi; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gastro-enterology; traumatologi; ortopedi; Kirurgi; Lactobacilli; Bacterial translocation; D-galactosamine; Intestinal mucosal changes; Luminal factors; Microflora; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Gastroenterologi;

    Sammanfattning : Infectious complications with enteric bacteria are common in liver diseases and liver surgery. An increased bacterial translocation from the gut has been proposed as one underlying mechanism. LÄS MER
