1. Small and Large, Charged Molecules in Solution and at Interfaces
Sammanfattning : The influence of small and large, charged molecules on the properties of aqueous interfaces has important implications in chemistry, biology, and medicine. For example, at the surface of marine aerosols, the presence of halide anions and tropospheric gases gives way to multiphase chemical reactions affecting climate and air quality. LÄS MER
2. Development and Application of a First Principle Molecular Model for Solvent Effects
Sammanfattning : A considerable part of chemistry in nature and industry, takes place in an environment of other molecules. Reactions, transitions, interactions or other chemical processes are almost always modified by the environment. LÄS MER
3. Adsorption at the Solid-Liquid Interface: An Atomic Force Microscopy Study
Sammanfattning : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate nature of adsorption of amphiphiles to the solid–liquid interface. The surface aggregate structures of the zwitterionic surfactant dodecyldimethylammoniopropanesulfonate, (DDAPS) and a series of nonionic polyoxyethlylene glycol alkyl ethers (C10E5, C12E5, C12E8, C10E6, C14E6 and C16E6) have been determined by Atomic Force Microscopy on solids of different hydrophobicity. 4. Electrostatic Interactions In and Between Biomolecules
Sammanfattning : Electrostatic interactions in bio-molecular systems are important not only in the living cell but also in more technical applications. Using molecular simulation as well as approximate theories the properties of a number of aqueous protein solutions have been studied. LÄS MER
5. Associative Multicomponent Polymers in Bulk and at Interfaces
Sammanfattning : The solution and interfacial properties of an associative water-soluble cellulose derivative, ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose (EHEC) have been investigated. Main themes have been to study the effect of hydrophobic modification of the polymer (HM-EHEC) and the interactions with surfactants, both in bulk and at interfaces. LÄS MER
