16. Partial renewal of granular activated carbon filters for improved drinking water treatment
Sammanfattning : Drinking water is widely collected from surface water sources. In these water sources, both the quantity and quality of natural organic matter (NOM) have been affected around the world during the last decades, especially in Northern Europe and North America. LÄS MER
17. Innovative treatment technologies for PFAS-contaminated water - Utilizing foam partitioning and exploring electrochemical oxidation
Sammanfattning : The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the aquatic environment has become a global cause for concern. PFAS are persistent anthropogenic chemicals, and certain PFAS are known to be mobile, bioaccumulative and toxic. LÄS MER
18. The adsorption of arsenic oxyacids to iron oxyhydroxide columns : including studies of weakly hydrated ions and molecules in aqueous solution
Sammanfattning : The fundamental side of this project includes determination of ionic radii and plausible hydration numbers for the weakly hydrated alkali metal ions in solution, as well as an investigation of the intramolecular bond lengths of arsenic oxyacid species and orthotelluric acid. Experimental methods such as EXAFS, XANES and LAXS have been used for these purposes, as well as thorough screening for relevant structures in crystal structure databases. LÄS MER
19. Investigations of the microbial diversity and dynamics in activated sludge using molecular methods
Sammanfattning : Wastewater treatment is necessary to reduce the health risks and environmental impacts associated with discharge of untreated wastewater. The most common way to treat wastewater in wastewater treatment plants is through the activated sludge process. LÄS MER
20. Efficient treatment of forest industrial wastewaters : Energy efficiency and resilience during disturbances
Sammanfattning : This work concerns the efficient treatment of wastewaters from pulp and paper mills by means of aerobic biological processes. For treatment processes there are many aspects of efficiency and the present study investigates both energy efficiency and purification efficiency during disturbances. LÄS MER
