1. Model-Based Diesel Engine Management System Optimization - A Strategy for Transient Engine Operation
Sammanfattning : To meet increasingly strict emission legislation and stronger demands on fuel consumption, typical passenger car diesel engines become increasingly complex with more and more controllable systems added. These added systems open up for the possibility to operate the engine at more efficient conditions, but it also becomes more challenging to optimize the settings in the engine management system. 2. Diesel Engine Modeling for Engine Management System Development
Sammanfattning : Due to increasingly strict emission legislation and stronger demands on fuel consumption, typical passenger car diesel engines become increasingly complex with more and more controllable systems added. These added systems open up for the possibility to operate the engine at more efficient conditions, but it also becomes more challenging to optimize the settings in the engine management system. 3. Model Based Optimization of a Complete Diesel Engine/SCR System
Sammanfattning : Achieving upcoming emissions legislation (Euro VI) for heavy trucks is a serious challenge for the manufacturers. Apart from the increasingly strict limits on nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate emissions (PM), the limited amount of fossil fuels as well as alarming climate changes simultaneously drives the demand for low CO2 emissions. 4. Aero Engine Intercooling
Sammanfattning : Intercooling has the potential to provide a shortcut to the next generation aero engines with higher bypass ratio (BPR), higher overall pressure ratio (OPR) and higher turbine inlet temperature (TIT) by lowering the high pressure compressor (HPC) delivery temperature. To be able to establish a systematic understanding of aero engine intercooling, the heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics of a given intercooler architecture need to be known in the parameter range anticipated for the engine optimization. 5. Development of Methods for Analysis and Optimization of Complex Jet Engine Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of GESTPAN (GEneral Stationary and Transient Propulsion ANalysis), a generalized system for the design, steady-state and transient simulation of gas turbine systems. Some of the main achievements in the thesis are related to the development of new algorithms or integration of existing numerics tailored to simplify the structure and use of generalized gas turbine simulation systems.
