  1. 6. Cost-efficient integration of variable renewable electricity - Variation management and strategic localisation of new demand

    Författare :Viktor Walter; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flexibility measures; Energy system modelling; smart energy systems; variation management strategies; variable renewable electricity;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to improve our understanding of how wind power and solar photovoltaics (PV) can be integrated into the European electricity system in a cost-efficient manner. For this, a techno-economic, cost-minimising model of the electricity system is refined for a number of case studies. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Novel Approaches for Retrofitting Heat Exchanger Networks Subject to Varying Operating Conditions

    Författare :Christian Langner; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multi-Period Optimization; Flexibility; Critical Points; Feasibility; Heat Integration; Process Industry; Energy Efficiency; Retrofit;

    Sammanfattning : The process industry is responsible for a significant share of the final industrial energy use in Sweden. In particular, the pulp and paper industry accounts for more than 50 %. In this context, a number of studies have shown that there is a substantial potential for energy savings in the pulp and paper industry. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Hydrogen in the European energy system - The cost dynamics and the value of time-shifting electricity generation

    Författare :Simon Öberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cost; energy systems modeling; Hydrogen; gas turbine; system dynamics; time-shifting;

    Sammanfattning : If the European Union is to become climate-neutral by Year 2050, as envisioned in the European Green Deal, the European energy system must undergo an unprecedented transformation towards eliminating its carbon emissions. For this transition, renewable electricity plays a central role, not only in replacing the current fossil-based electricity generation, but also in promoting the electrification of other sectors, such as transport and industry, sectors which are currently based on fossil fuels. 4. 9. Flexibility from local resources: Congestion management in distribution grids and carbon emission reductions

    Författare :Nima Mirzaei Alavijeh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flexibility; local energy system; local flexibility market; emission abatement strate- gies; congestion management; distribution system operator;

    Sammanfattning : Flexibility from local energy systems has been discussed as a facilitator for the transition towards a more carbon-neutral energy system. Two use cases of this flexibility are congestion management in electricity distribution networks, and an individual-driven reduction of carbon footprints. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Electrification of Road Transportation - Implications for the Electricity System

    Författare :Maria Taljegård; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; highway E39; CO2 emissions; electric vehicle; electric road systems; energy system modelling; variable renewable electricity;

    Sammanfattning : It is incumbent upon the transport sector to reduce its CO2 emissions by replacing fossil fuels with low-carbon alternatives. Suggested strategies include electrification of the road transport sector through the use of electric vehicles (EVs) with static charging, electric road systems (ERS), and the use of electricity to produce fuels.
