21. Advancing the understanding of pilot ignition in dual fuel engines : Experimental and conceptual studies
Sammanfattning : The energy transition is looking for new technologies to reduce CO2 emissions. One of the promising options is the dual fuel engine. In this concept, based on a diesel engine, a small pilot diesel injection is used to ignite a second fuel. LÄS MER
22. Low Emission Concepts for Diesel Engines
Sammanfattning : In the recent past, the Diesel engine has been improved considerably in the areas of performance, fuel efficiency and exhaust emissions. In Europe, these improvements have resulted in a strong increase in the sales of passenger cars equipped with a Diesel engine. LÄS MER
23. A sensitivity analysis of the Winter-Kennedy method
Sammanfattning : Hydropower is among the lowest-cost electrical energy sources due to its long lifespan and lower operation and maintenance cost. The hydro-mechanical components of hydropower plants generally last about four to five decades, then they are either overhauled or replaced. LÄS MER
24. Full Cycle Engine Simulations with Detailed Chemistry
Sammanfattning : The modeling work developed in this thesis can be divided in two main areas of investigations: autoignition related to spark ignition engine and combustion and emissions formation in relation to diesel engines. A first version of a detailed kinetics engine simulation program, extended to handle full cycle calculations, was employed in order to demonstrate the strong effect that nitric oxide from the residual gas has on the autoignition onset. 25. Dual-Fuel Combustion in a Heavy-Duty Engine
Sammanfattning : The need to control climate change and improve the fuel effieciency of internal combustion engines has prompted global efforts to develop alternative fuels in order to reduce dependence on conventional petroleum derivatives. This thesis deals with three such alternative fuels: compressed natural gas (CNG), pure methane (used to mimic biogas), and methanol. LÄS MER
