  1. 1. Endothelin receptor changes during inflammation in the lung

    Författare :Bengt Granström; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; Upregulation; Smooth muscle cells; Smoking; Sephadex; Remodeling; Rat; mRNA; Human; ETB receptor; ETA receptor; Lung; Endothelin; Asthma bronchiale; Contraction;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is an extremely potent smooth muscle spasmogen well known from the vascular system but also active within the airways. The importance of its proinflammatory and co-mitogenic properties has become increasingly evident, the endothelin system also having been shown to mimic the signal features of asthma, COPD and other pulmonary diseases. 2. 2. Importance of MAPK and PKC in cerebrovascular endothelin receptor changes

    Författare :Marie Henriksson; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; toxicology; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Fysiologi; Physiology; cerebral arteries; ischemia; receptors; endothelin; Farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelin is a vasoactive peptide that exerts its effect through two receptors; the endothelin type A (ETA) and type B (ETB) receptor. The contractile ETA receptor is localized on smooth muscle cells in the vascular wall, while the ETB receptors are mainly situated on endothelial cells, mediating vasodilatation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Altered expression of contractile endothelin receptors in the vascular bed

    Författare :Mikael Adner; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; upregulation; transcriptional regulation; smooth muscle cells; plasticity; organ culture; Endothelin; receptor; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at characterizing the endothelin (ET) receptors in different vascular beds of man and rat. The ET-A receptor was shown to be the only contractile ET receptor present in all vascular regions, with the exception of the rat mesenteric vein where a weak ET-B receptor-mediated contraction was seen. 4. 4. Molecular Mechanisms in Vascular Endothelin B Receptor Up-Regulation

    Författare :Erik Uddman; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; reverse; in vitro pharmacology; organ culture; Endothelin receptors; up-regulation;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases are characterized by changes in morphology and function of the blood vessels. Different signalling molecules are involved in these changes. Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is one of the most potent signalling molecules found in man. Its actions are mediated by two receptors, the ETA and the ETB receptors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Endothelium-derived Vasoactive Factors and Leukocyte-derived Inflammatory Mediators. Studies in subjects with or at risk for vascular disease

    Författare :Anwaar M Ibrahim; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostacyclin.; Postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy; Nitric oxide; Endothelin; Diabetes mellitus; Cytokines; Cholesterol; Atherosclerosis; Cerebral ischemia; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Sammanfattning : This study was undertaken to evaluate relationships between endothelial function (assessed as mediators of endothelium-derived vasoactive factors such as nitric oxide [NO], prostacyclin [PGI2] and endothelin [ET-1] ), and risk factors for atherosclerosis, as well as to study possible relationships between endothelial function and leukocyte activation (indicated by measurements of leukocyte-derived inflammatory mediators) in subjects with or at risk for atherosclerosis. In subjects with asymptomatic atherosclerosis we found inverse relationships between cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in platelets (mediator of NO activity) and both serum total cholesterol and plasma ET-1 suggesting that NO-mediated vasodilation may be impaired in hypercholesterolemia and that maintenance of vascular tone is achieved by a balance between NO and ET-1.
