  1. 16. Endothelial activation and inflammation in the tumor microenvironment

    Författare :Hua Huang; Anna Dimberg; William C. Aird; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tumor angiogenesis; endothelial activation; leukocyte recruitment; VEGF-A; αB-crystallin; ELTD1;

    Sammanfattning : Tumors are composed not only of malignant cells, but also of various types of normal cells, including vascular cells and infiltrating immune cells, which drive tumor development and progression. The tumor vasculature is abnormal and dysfunctional due to sustained tumor angiogenesis driven by high levels of pro-angiogenic factors. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Role of GLP-1 receptor agonists in endothelial function

    Författare :Özlem Erdogdu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Type 2 diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: The leading cause of death for patients suffering from type 2 diabetes is macrovascular disease. Endothelial dysfunction is one of the earliest events identified in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Hence, there is a need for finding glucose-lowering agents that cause direct positive effects on vasculature in diabetic patients. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Endothelial function and dysfunction in coronary artery bypass grafting

    Författare :Ulf Lockowandt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; CABG; Endothelin; Endothelin-blockers; endothelium; lactate; off-pump CABG; prostacyclin; radial artery; unstable angina pectoris;

    Sammanfattning : The integrity of the endothelium is of importance for short- and long-term results following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). In this thesis different factors of the endothelial role in the regulation of vascular tone in relation to various current aspects of CABG have been investigated. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Properties of the glomerular endothelial cell surface layer in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Vincent Fridén; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :Glomerular filtration; Glomerular endothelial cell surface layer; Proteinuria; Proteoglycans; glycocalyx; glycosaminoglycans; glomerular endothelial cells; permselectivity and glomerular endothelial cell coat;

    Sammanfattning : A healthy kidney produces final urine that is practically devoid of proteins and other physiologically important solutes. Tremendous amounts of fluid are filtered every day through the glomerular filtration barrier which is the actual sieving site in the kidney. LÄS MER

  5. 20. The role of leptin in endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Manuel Cruz Gonzalez Garcia; Stefan Söderberg; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; leptin; obesity; endothelial dysfunction; cardiovascular disease; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Objective:  Obesity has become the leading cause of mortality worldwide; however, the fundamental pathophysiology underlying this association remains unclear. The discovery of adipokines, i.e., cytokines produced by adipose cells (adipocytes), revealed that adipose tissue is a highly endocrine organ, thus opening new lines of investigation. LÄS MER
