  1. 21. SOUnd-DRIven BIOtechnology

    Författare :Nasim Najjarzadeh; Paul Christakopoulos; Cristhian Álvaro Carrasco Villanueva; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Ultrasound has been vastly applied in different areas such as medical imaging and the food industry, but not much attempt has been made to investigate its influence on microorganisms and its potential to be applied in microbial biotechnology. Previous studies show the potential of acoustic waves to increase biomass yield, production of secondary metabolites and enhanced enzyme-catalyzed reactions, probably due to improved mass transfer and cell retention. 2. 22. Chiral recognition on cellulases : The active sites of the enzymes are involved

    Författare :Hongbin Henriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Two cellobiohydrolases (CBH I and CBH II) and endoglucanase I (EG I) fromTrichoderma reesei, and CBH 58 from Phanerochaete chrysosporium were immobilized onsilica as chiral stationary phases (CSPs) in HPLC for enantioseparation of a group ofpharmaceutical compounds. CBH I and CBH 58 wore excellent chiral selectors for β-adrenergic blocking agents, whereas CBH II displayed good enantioselectivity for someother compounds The CBHs share the common feature that their active sites are located intunnels. 3. 23. Functional studies and engineering of family 1 carbohydrate-binding modules

    Författare :Janne Lehtiö; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Cellulose-binding; carbohydrate-binding modules; phage display; bacterial surface display; combinatorial protein library; protein engineering; Trichoderma reesei; Staphylococcus carnosus;

    Sammanfattning : The family 1 cellulose-binding modules (CBM1) form a groupof small, stable carbohydrate-binding proteins. These modulesare essential for fungal cellulosedegradation. This thesisdescribes both functional studies of the CBM1s as well asprotein engineering of the modules for several objectives. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Selective extraction systems for detection and purification of membrane proteins

    Författare :Ulf Sivars; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; partitioning; Aqueous two-phase systems; separation; membrane proteins; detergent; micelle; polymer; Biochemistry; affinity; Metabolism; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Increased understanding of membrane proteins is important for characterization of biochemical processes. Improved membrane protein isolation methods is a key issue for effective functional and structural determination of the large amount of unknown membrane proteins. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Fenton Pre-treatment of a Birch Kraft Pulp for MFC preparation

    Författare :Pia Hellström; Helena Håkansson; Anette Heijnesson Hultén; Magnus Paulsson; Monica Ek; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microfibrillated cellulose; Fenton chemistry; carbonyl groups; surface charge; total charge; Enzymatic hydrolysis; Tensile strength; z-directional strength; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The potential to use acidic hydrogen peroxide in the presence of ferrous ions (Fenton’s reagent) as a pre-treatment when producing microfibrillar cellulose (MFC) from a fully bleached birch (Betula verucosa) kraft pulp was investigated and the properties of the produced MFC was compared to the properties of a MFC produced with enzymatic pre-treatment with a monocomponent endoglucanase (FiberCare® R). The mechanical treatment to MFC was performed in a laboratory colloid mill or in a pilot high-pressure homogeniser and the pre-treated pulps as well as the produced MFCs were chemically and morphologically characterised.
