21. Recovery of Hemicelluloses Extracted from Spruce and Wheat Bran : Membrane Filtration Process Development and Cost Estimates
Sammanfattning : Hemicelluloses are a group of abundant polymers found in all plants and constitute about one third of the total plant biomass. These polymers can be used in many different products, such as oxygen barrier films, emulsifiers, foams and probiotic food additives. LÄS MER
22. The Rôle of Side-Chains in Polymer Electrolytes for Batteries and Fuel Cells
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis relates to the design of new polymer electrolytes for battery and fuel cell applications. Classical Molecular Dynamics (MD) modelling studies are reported of the nano-structure and the local structure and dynamics for two types of polymer electrolyte host: poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) for lithium batteries and perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) for polymer-based fuel cells. 23. Conformational properties of transmembrane polypeptide segments in the ER membrane
Sammanfattning : We have developed a new experimental approach where the active site of oligosaccharyl transferase is used as a point of reference against which the position of a transmembrane segment in the membrane can be measured. This so-called glycosylation mapping technique allows any transmembrane segment to be positioned relative to a known reference transmembrane helix with known position in the membrane. LÄS MER
24. Understanding structure and function of membrane protein transporters
Sammanfattning : Membrane protein transporters are important proteins in the cell, as they maintain different solutes and metabolites at a stable concentration. Numerous diseases can be linked to malfunctioning transporters, which makes them interesting pharmaceutical targets. LÄS MER
25. Insertion and Topology of Inner Membrane Proteins in Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : Integral membrane proteins are found in all cellular membranes and fulfil many of the functions that are central to life. They maintain the membrane structure, but are also involved in the regulation of different cellular processes. LÄS MER
