  1. 1. DNA-Controlled Lipid-Membrane Fusion

    Författare :Lisa Simonsson; [2009]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exocytosis; vesicles; DNA; FRET; fluorescence resonance energy transfer; model system; total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy; TIRF microscopy; self-assembly; site-specificity; diffusion; biomembranes; lipid bilayer; membrane fusion;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. We have demonstrated that short DNA oligonucleotides, membrane-attached via CH in an orientation that mimics the overall zipperlike architecture of fusion-inducing proteins, induce fusion of both suspended vesicles and vesicles site-specifically tethered to SLBs. 2. 2. Antimicrobial Peptide Interactions with Phospholipid Membranes Effects of Peptide and Lipid Composition on Membrane Adsorption and Disruption

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Adam A Strömstedt; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial; peptide; adsorption; liposome; membrane; melittin; cholesterol; tryptophan; phospholipid; bilayer; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The interactions between antimicrobial peptides and phospholipid membranes were investigated, in terms of lipid headgroup variations and the role of cholesterol, as well as peptide composition and structure. Also strategies for increasing proteolytic stability were evaluated. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Topical anesthesia of the tympanic membrane an experimental animal study

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Författare :Sten-Hermann Schmidt; Umeå universitet.; [1987]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Topical anesthesia; middle ear; tympanic membrane; cochlea; collagen fibres; lidocaine; 96 % phenol; Bonain s liquid; auditory brainstem response; ototoxicity; cytocochleogram; scanning electron microscopy; rat; guinea pig;

    Sammanfattning : Myringotomy plays an important role in otological therapy. The procedure requires an efficient anesthesia, which can be obtained without general anesthesia. However, the use of local anesthetics on the tympanic membrane (TM) has been abandoned in many places, as general anesthesia has been readily available. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Membrane interactions of glycosyltransferases

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Stockholm University

    Författare :Jobst Liebau; Stockholms universitet.; [2015]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lipid; bicelle; glycosyltransferase; NMR; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Many important biological processes occur near or in membranes. The role of membranes is not merely confined to compartmentalization, they also form the matrix for membrane associated proteins and are of functional importance. Membrane associated proteins on the other hand require specific membrane properties for proper function. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Engineering membrane proteins for production and topology

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Stockholm University

    Författare :Stephen Toddo; Stockholms universitet.; [2015]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane protein; Over-expression; Protein production; Codon optimization; Escherichia coli; AraH; NarK; mRNA secondary structure; coding sequence; ribosome binding site; RBS; topology; split-GFP; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The genomes of diverse organisms are predicted to contain 20 – 30% membrane protein encoding genes and more than half of all therapeutics target membrane proteins. However, only 2% of crystal structures deposited in the protein data bank represent integral membrane proteins. LÄS MER
