1. Brain processing of experimental muscle pain and its interrelation with proprioception and muscle fatigue : positron emission tomography study
Sammanfattning : Chronic muscle pain is a significant medical and social problem and better understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms involved is an important requirement for further development of diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation methods. Experimental imaging studies have investigated functional neuroanatomy of different pain components. LÄS MER
2. Green consumption energy use and carbon dioxide emission
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to explore the quantitative potential to reduce energy requirements and CO2 emissions through changed patterns of consumption, given unchanged levels of consumption expenditure. The thesis question is analysed using a systems analysis approach which in this case means that life cycle assessment data on energy requirements and CO2 emissions related to household consumption are combined with a financial and behavioural analysis to make sure that the budget constraint is kept and that both the first and second order effects of adopting a green consumption pattern are analysed. 3. Urban driving patterns - characterisation, variability and environmental implications
Sammanfattning : Driving patterns, i.e. the speed and acceleration profiles of vehicles affect exhaust emission and fuel consumption considerably. LÄS MER
4. Search for Biomarkers in ALS and Parkinson's Disease : Positron Emission Tomography and Cerebrospinal Fluid Studies
Sammanfattning : New biomarkers are needed to improve knowledge about pathophysiology, in order to provide earlier correct diagnosis and to follow disease progression of the neurodegenerative diseases amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of this thesis was to find new biomarkers for these diseases. LÄS MER
5. Improving alternatives assessment of plastic additives : exploring in silico tools to identify less hazardous flame retardants
Sammanfattning : Alternatives assessment is applied for replacing hazardous chemicals with viable, safer substitutes. High quality experimental hazard data, however, are usually unavailable for this purpose, and obtaining in silico data is the only approach to fill in data gaps. LÄS MER
