  1. 21. Modeling Neural Stem Cell and Glioma Biology

    Författare :Tobias Bergström; Karin Forsberg-Nilsson; Staffan Johansson; Sven Påhlman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neural stem cell; integrins; glioma; PDGF; mast cell; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on neural stem cell (NSC) and glioma biology. I discuss how NSCs interact with extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins in the stem cell niche, and investigate the consequences of deregulated Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) signaling for embryonic NSCs in transgenic mice. 2. 22. Gene expression studies of pregastrulation development: the basement membrane is essential for cell differentiation

    Författare :Mikael Åkerlund; Muskelbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muscular dystrophy; development; Basement membrane; laminin; stem cells; FGF;

    Sammanfattning : Basement membranes (BMs) are sheet-like structures of extracellular matrix. They act as a supporting structure but can also significantly influence cellular behavior in development, tissue homeostasis and disease. Laminins, a major BM component, are multidomain proteins, consisting of three polypeptide chains (α, β and γ). LÄS MER

  3. 23. Roles of the Shb and Cbl Proteins in Signal Transduction and Blood Vessel Formation

    Författare :Lingge Lu; Michael Welsh; Lars Holgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Shb; Cbl; FGF-2; NGF; PDGF; VEGF; VEGFR-2; differentiation; blood vessel formation; PC12 cells; endothelial cells; embryoid bodies; Rap1; CrkII; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Formation of blood vessels occurs through two processes: vasculogenesis and angiogenesis, which are regulated by various growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor, fibroblast growth factor and platelet-derived growth factor. The present study was carried out in order to investigate the roles of the Shb and Cbl proteins in growth factor-mediated signal transduction and blood vessel formation. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Stem Cell Transplantation in Dorsal Root Injury

    Författare :Carl Trolle; Elena Kozlova; Niklas Marklund; Karin Nordström; Michael Andäng; Mårten Risling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sensory Neuron; Regeneration; Spinal Root; Stem Cell; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : After traumatic injuries to the brachial plexus there is a risk that one or more of the spinal roots are torn from the spinal cord, known as avulsion injury. This often leads to paralysis and chronic pain, notoriously difficult to treat with current pharmacotherapy. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The Effects of Genetic and Epigenetic Variation on Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Differentiation

    Författare :Roksana Moraghebi; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Human pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) are widely used for studying embryonic development, disease modelling, drug discovery and cell therapy development. Using human PSCs as a model has significantly contributed to our understanding of embryonic development and elucidating novel pathological mechanisms as well as developing new drugs. LÄS MER
