  1. 11. Microbiome Of Ecotoxicity Assays

    Författare :Asa Motiei; Elena Gorokhova; Natàlia Corcoll; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biofilm; Microplastics; Suspended solids; Aquatic toxicology; Daphnia magna; Ecotoxicology; Bacterial colonization; Particle aggregation; Microbiome interaction; Standardization; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Microorganisms are ubiquitous and present in animal microbiomes, particulates, and colonizable surfaces of test systems. From an ecotoxicological perspective, they are metabolically active biological compartments that respond to test conditions, including test substances. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Trophic complexity of zooplankton–cyanobacteria interactions in the Baltic Sea : Insights from molecular diet analysis

    Författare :Nisha H. Motwani; Elena Gorokhova; Jakob Walve; Catherine Legrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bloom-forming filamentous cyanobacteria; diazotrophs; picocyanobacteria; zooplankton; grazing; molecular diet analysis; stable isotopes; biochemical indices; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Blooms of nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria (NFC) occur in many freshwater and marine systems, including the Baltic Sea. By fixing dissolved nitrogen, they circumvent general summer nitrogen limitation, while also generating a supply of novel bioavailable nitrogen for non-diazotrophic primary producers and ultimately supporting secondary production. 3. 13. Molecular evidence for metazooplankton feeding on filamentous cyanobacteria and picocyanobacteria in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Nisha Motwani; Elena Gorokhova; Agneta Andersson; Jakob Walve; Karolina Ininbergs; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions between zooplankton and cyanobacteria are complex and system-specific. They play an important role in mediating responses of phytoplankton to changes in nutrient regime and top-down manipulations. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Micro-by-micro interactions : Aggregation dynamics, biofilms, and ecotoxicological impacts of suspended solids

    Författare :Sophia Reichelt; Elena Gorokhova; Rehab El Shehawy; Julien Gigault; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; suspended solids; microplastics; bacteria; biofilm; aggregation; ecotoxicology; microalgae; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Increasing concerns arise regarding the environmental risk of microplastics (MP) and their interactions with biota, prompting numerous effect studies. However, current ecotoxicology methods fall short when it comes to assessing MP impacts. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Over the last decade environmental agencies worldwide have escalated their work to phase out animal testing for the purposes of chemical regulation. Meanwhile the number of commercially available chemicals and the requirements for hazard assessments have both increased, creating a large need for substitution of traditional in vivo assays with in vitro tests.
