21. Influence of peat addition to biomass pellets on combustion characteristics in residential appliances
Sammanfattning : The biomass pellet consumption, both in the industry and in residential appliances, has increased during the latest years and this is expected to continue. In order to handle the demand, more ash rich (>0,5 wt-%) raw materials have been introduced as energy wood and other forest based fuels. LÄS MER
22. Sulfur Capture and Oxidation of Calcium Sulfide in PFBC
Sammanfattning : Sorbents such as limestone are successfully used for removal of SO2 during pressurized fluidized bed combustion (PFBC) processes. However, there still remains a strong incentive to reduce the consumption of such sorbents. LÄS MER
23. Application of Passive DOAS using Scattered Sunlight for quantification of gas emissions from anthropogenic and volcanic sources
Sammanfattning : Monitoring of gas emissions from natural and anthropogenic sources is important due to the negative effects of these emissions on human health, atmospheric quality and ecosystems. Concern over air pollution has increased the need to develop measurement techniques suitable for gas flux determination. LÄS MER
24. Co-Combustion of Municipal Solid Waste and Animal Waste : Experiment and Simulation Studies
Sammanfattning : Co-combustion of animal carcasses and slaughterhouse waste products (animal waste), which are classed as high-risk infectious waste, has been considered as a “fuel opportunity” for waste-to-energy boilers. In this study, the impact of co-combustion of animal waste with municipal solid waste (MSW) on operational issues such as bed agglomeration, deposit formation and emission was investigated, employing experimental and theoretical methods. 25. Air pollution, genetic susceptibility and inflammation : focusing on cardiovascular effects in adults and respiratory effects in children
Sammanfattning : Air pollution exposure can induce low-grade systemic inflammation with consequences for both cardiovascular and respiratory systems. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of air pollutants on the development of complex inflammatory diseases (myocardial infarction and respiratory disease), and genetically determined susceptibility for these effects, using epidemiologic methodology.
