    Sammanfattning : In this Licentiate Thesis we will study the topological phases of Z2 and Z3 symmetric chains. We will present the Kitaev chain, a Z2 symmetric model of spinless fermions, and obtain all the eigenstates of the model with an open boundary condition which hosts Majorana zero modes in the topological phase.     Sammanfattning : Recent experimental progress on ultracold atomic gases have opened up the possibility to simulate many-body systems out of equilibrium. We consider such a system described by the Luttinger model, which is a model of interacting fermions in one spatial dimension.It is well known that the Luttinger model is exactly solvable using bosonization.
