  1. 21. Humans and Seagrasses in East Africa : A social-ecological systems approach

    Författare :Maricela de la Torre-Castro; Nils Kautsky; Carl Folke; Patrik Rönnbäck; Edward H. Allison; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :seagrasses; social-ecological systems; institutions; seaweed farming; artisanal fisheries; common-pool resources; natural resource management; Zanzibar; Tanzania; East Africa; Western Indian Ocean;

    Sammanfattning : The present study is one of the first attempts to analyze the societal importance of seagrasses (marine flowering plants) from a Natural Resource Management perspective, using a social-ecological systems (SES) approach. The interdisciplinary study takes place in East Africa (Western Indian Ocean, WIO) and includes in-depth studies in Chwaka Bay, Zanzibar, Tanzania. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Benefits from ecosystem services in Sahelian village landscapes

    Författare :Hanna Sinare; Line J Gordon; Elin Enfors Kautsky; Lowe Börjeson; Jennie Barron; Berta Martín-López; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Rural people in the Sahel derive multiple benefits from local ecosystem services on a daily basis. At the same time, a large proportion of the population lives in multidimensional poverty. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Impacts of Regional Climate Change on Swedish Forests: An Evaluation Using Process-based Regional Ecosystem Modelling Approach

    Författare :Deniz Koca; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; physical geography; Sweden; forest management; diversity; carbon sequestration; net primary productivity; regional climate change; process-based regional ecosystem modelling;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to provide a representative estimate of the potential impacts of climate change and increased atmospheric CO2 concentrations on Swedish forest ecosystems and the key ecosystem services they provide. In order to achieve this task, fi rst LPJ-GUESS, a process-based regional ecosystem modelling framework, was applied to explore how possible shifts in climatic zones according to a range of regional climate scenarios may lead to changes in the tree species distribution and composition, net primary productivity (NPP) and carbon sequestration capacity of potential natural ecosystems on species level and at the regional scale. 4. 24. Get it off the ground – Facilitating water-related environmental measures to support agricultural managers in business model innovation processes for sustainability

    Författare :Anna M. Hansson; Jeaneth Johansson; Eja Pedersen; Niklas Karlsson; Richard Fergusson; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sustainable value creation; Business model innovation; Facilitation; Agriculture; Water management; Ecosystem services;

    Sammanfattning : Agricultural businesses, which currently maintain, manage, create, and capture economic value from natural resources on farmland, play an important role in creating sustainable economic, environmental, and social value through maintaining and utilising a variety of ecosystem services in addition to traditional food production. This thesis focuses on ecosystem services that derive from water-related environmental measures (WREMs). LÄS MER

  5. 25. Violent natural resource conflicts : From definitions to prevention

    Författare :Marie K. Schellens; Belyazid Salim; Stefano Manzoni; Silja Bára Ómarsdottir; Päivi Lujala; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural resource conflicts; natural resources; violent conflict; criticality; definition; predictive modelling; early warning; causal network; prevention; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : General scientific consensus is growing that natural resources play an important role in violent conflicts. Both scarcity and abundance contribute to violent conflict, depending on the socio-economic and political conditions at play. LÄS MER
