  1. 16. Magnetotransport Measurements of Ni Thin Films

    Författare :Shawn Alexander Boye; Peter Lazor; Hans Annersten; Per Nordblad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; magnetoresistance; Hall effect; diamond anvil cell; magnon scattering; band ferromagnetism; nickel; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents transverse magnetoresistance (MR) and Hall resistivity measurements of nickel thin films at temperatures between 280 and 455 K and pressures up to 6 GPa. An experimental system was developed for conducting precise magnetotransport measurements using the current reversal and van der Pauw techniques in combination with a 10 T superconducting magnet. 2. 17. Thermodynamic study of the FeO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system : Data assessment and phase diagram calculation

    Författare :Olga Fabrichnaya; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation consists of assessed thermodynamic properties for phases in the geologically and industrially important system Fe-Mg-Al-Si-O and calculated phase diagrams. Mathematical processing of different kinds of experimental data (phase equilibrium data, calorimetric, volumetric, thermophysical,electrochemical, activity data) is used to derive internally consistent thermodynamic database. 3. 18. Thermal Conductivity of Materials under Conditions of Planetary Interiors

    Författare :Zuzana Konôpková; Peter Lazor; Vitali Prakapenka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; iron; high pressures-high temperatures; thermal conductivity; diamond anvil cell; laser-heating; planetary cores; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The presented thesis focuses on study of transport and thermoelastic properties of materials under conditions of planetary interiors by means of high-pressure experimental tools and finite element modeling, and their role in the dynamics and states of cores of terrestrial planets. Experiments in laser-heated diamond anvil cell (LHDAC) in combination with numerical simulations of heat transfer in DAC are shown to yield information on thermal conductivity of a pressurized sample. 4. 19. Embankments founded on sulphide clay : - some aspects related to ground improvement by vertical drains

    Författare :Rasmus Müller; Stefan Larsson; Göran Sällfors; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geotechnical engineering; embankments; vertical drains; sulphide clay; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, some aspects concerning building embankments founded on sulphide clay are studied, with special reference to ground improvement by preloading in combination with prefabricated vertical drains (PVD’s). The main purpose of the research was to increase empirical knowledge of the mechanical behaviour of sulphide clays subjected to embankment loadings and of the interaction between vertical drains and sulphide clays. 5. 20. A Pressure-oriented Approach to Water Management

    Författare :Xingqiang Song; Björn Frostell; Ronald Wennersten; Maarten Siebel; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DPR model. DPSIR framework. human-environment. industrial ecology. life cycle thinking. pressure-oriented approach. socioeconomic metabolism. systems thinking. water information. water quality. water quantity;

    Sammanfattning : Without a comprehensive understanding of anthropogenic pressures on the water environment, it is difficult to develop effective and efficient strategies to support water management in a proactive way. A broader systems perspective and expanded information systems are therefore essential to aid in systematically exploring interlinks between socioeconomic activities and impaired waters at an appropriate scale.
