  1. 1. The role of hypoxia for the development of diabetic nephropathy : Temporal relationship and involvement of endothelin receptor signaling

    Författare :Stephanie Franzén; Fredrik Palm; Pamela K. Carmines; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephropathy; diabetes; hypoxia; EPR;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most common causes of end stage renal disease and develops in approximately one third of all diabetes patients. Disease progression is characterized by deteriorating glomerular filtration rate and escalating urinary albumin/protein excretion; both are used as clinical markers for disease progression. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The importance of nitric oxide bioavailability and endothelial mechanisms for cardioprotection by pharmacological intervention during myocardial ischaemia and reperfusion

    Författare :Andrey Gourine; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :ATP sensitive K channels; endothelin-1; clevidipine; ETA receptor antagonist; glibenclamide; 5-hydroxydecanoic acid; infarct size; ischaemia; myeloperoxidase; nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; pig; preconditioning; rat; reperfusion.;

    Sammanfattning : Myocardial ischaemia initiates complex severe cellular changes and, after a critical time period, myocardial cell death. Despite that restitution of coronary blood flow is an absolute pre-requisite for tissue survival, myocardial reperfusion per se will also increase irreversible damage in the jeopardised myocardium. 3. 3. The role of endothelin during myocardial ischaemia and reperfusion : pathophysiological mechanisms and interactions with nitric oxide

    Författare :Adrian T Gonon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :ischaemia; reperfusion injury; myocardium; infarct size; endothelium; endothelin; endothelin receptor; nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; polymorphonuclear leukocytes; myeloperoxidase; pig; rat;

    Sammanfattning : Acute myocardial infarction followed by reperfusion results in accelerated necrosis of irreversibly injured myocytes as well as induction of lethal injury to reversibly injured cells. Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) are major participants in the reperfusion-initiated inflammation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Endothelin in the pulmonary circulation with special reference to hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction

    Författare :Peter Holm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :bosentan; BMS-182874; ; BQ-123; BQ-788; endothelin; endothelium; hypoxia; hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction; pulmonary hypertension; receptor antagonism; TBC 11251.;

    Sammanfattning : A number of substances originating from the pulmonary endothelium have recently been found to be involved in the regulation of pulmonary vascular tone. Accumulating evidence suggests that endothelial dysfunction contributes to pulmonary hypertension, an important clinical problem often associated with hypoxemia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Endothelin and nitric oxide in coronary vascular regulation with special reference to myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury

    Författare :Qing-Dong Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :endothelium; endothelin; myocardial ischemia; myocardial infarction; reperfusion; L-arginine; nitric oxide.;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium plays an important role in the regulation of cardiovascular function by producing bioactive substances such as nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-I (ET- 1). Recent evidence has revealed that endothelial dysfunction is closely related to myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. LÄS MER
