6. A Path for Improving Stroke Recovery. Effects of MEK-ERK1/2 Inhibition
Sammanfattning : The present thesis aimed to shed more light on the notion of acute inhibition of extracellular-signal regulated kinase (ERK)1/2 pathway as a treatment to improve stroke recovery. Stroke is a major cause of death and long-term disability worldwide, classified as ischemic or hemorrhagic. LÄS MER
7. Mechanisms of modulation of PDGFRβ signaling
Sammanfattning : Platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF) constitute a family of five functional dimers that bind to two structurally related tyrosine kinase receptors i.e. PDGF receptor α and β (PDGFRα and PDGFRβ, respectively), controlling cell growth, proliferation, and migration in cells of mesenchymal origin. 8. TISSUE MICROARRAY PERSPECTIVES ON CYCLIN D1 IN BREAST CANCER: Progression, prognosis and prediction
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is a truly heterogenous disease, reflected in the existence of a wide spectrum of phenotypic subsets of tumours with varying intrinsic aggressiveness as well as ability to respond to a given treatment. Recent advances in large-scale genomic and proteomic screening techniques have confirmed this heterogeneity also at a molecular level, but there is still a bottleneck to be overcome before the discoveries in the laboratory can be translated into the much more complex clinical situation in order to develop better targeted therapies. 9. Uropathogenic Esherichia coli, multidrug-resistance and induction of host defense mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) is the primary cause of urinary tract infection (UTI), which is one of the most common infections in humans. UPEC strains have acquired successful strategies to subvert the host defense and antibiotics to persist in the urinary tract. LÄS MER
10. Neuropeptide and catecholamine effects on tenocytes in tendinosis development : studies on two model systems with focus on proliferation and apoptosis
Sammanfattning : Background: Achilles tendinopathy is a common clinical syndrome of chronic Achilles tendon pain combined with thickening of the tendon and impaired tendon function. Tendinopathy is often, but not always, induced by mechanical overload, and is frequently accompanied by abnormalities at the tissue level, such as hypercellularity and angiogenesis, in which case the condition is called tendinosis.
