6. Assessing the ERG rearrangement for clinincal use in patients with prostrate cancer
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, close to 10 000 men are annually diagnosed with prostate cancer (PCa) and approximately 2400 men die of their disease each year. Today there is no reliable marker that can separate patients who will have an aggressive type of disease that requires treatment, from patients who will have a more indolent clinical course and can be left untreated. 7. Clinical expressions of juvenile hereditary retinal degenerations and macular dystrophies: Electrophysiological and genetic studies
Sammanfattning : Hereditary retinal degenerations are the most frequent reason for severe visual handicap among young people in Scandinavia today. In the six papers included in this thesis the phenotypic expressions, with emphasis on the electrophysiological findings, of five different juvenile hereditary retinal degenerations are described. 8. Comparing retinal function and structure in diabetic maculopathy and retinal detachment with ff-ERG and a combination of mfERG and OCT
Sammanfattning : Diabetic maculopathy and retinal detachment, especially involving macula, are potentially sight-threatening conditions. Previous evaluations of retinal function, and treatment of these conditions have been subjective methods depending on the examiner or the collaboration with the examined patient. LÄS MER
9. Electrophysiology and optical coherence tomography in acquired and hereditary retinal disorders
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, retinal function in general, as well as central retinal function and structure are described in selected forms of acquired and hereditary retinal disorders, in order to improve our understanding of underlying pathogenic mechanisms. This comparison has been made possible during the last years, through the relatively recent development of multifocal ERG (mfERG) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) for the analysis of central retinal function and structure, respectively. 10. Electrophysiology, Optical Coherence Tomography and Molecular Genetic Analysis in Patients with Glaucoma and/or Best Vitelliform Macular Dystrophy as Part of Clinical Care
Sammanfattning : Glaucoma is a common ophthalmic disease with multifactorial aetiology. There is growing evidence that glaucoma is a disease of the entire retina and not only the inner retina. LÄS MER
