16. Epidemiology of ESBL-producing E. coli with special reference to outbreak detection
Sammanfattning : Multidrug resistant bacteria, particularly extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae (EPE), are becoming a major health concern. ESBL-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-E. coli) is the most prevalent type. ESBL-genes are carried on plasmids, often by bacteria belonging to clones with properties that facilitate transmission. 17. Carbon monoxide and nitric oxide as antimicrobial agents : focus on ESBL-producing uropathogenic E.coli
Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are common in humans and most often caused by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli). Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli are increasing worldwide and they are frequently multidrug-resistant with limited treatment options. LÄS MER
18. Strategies for improved Escherichia coli bioprocessing performance
Sammanfattning : Escherichia coli has a proven track record for successful production of anything from small molecules like organic acids to large therapeutic proteins, and has thus important applications in both R&D and commercial production. The versatility of this organism in combination with the accumulated knowledge of its genome, metabolism and physiology, has allowed for development of specialty strains capable of performing very specific tasks, opening up opportunities within new areas. 19. Bacterial colonization of the neonatal bowel and ileal pouch with focus on E. coli
Sammanfattning : The colonic microbiota is a source of inflammatogenic and potentially pathogenic bacteria, but also a source of immune maturation signals to the infant. Here, we have investigated the normal colonic microbiota, with focus on E. coli in Swedish and Pakistani newborn infants, as well as the microbiota of the ileo-anal pouch in colectomized patients. 20. Synthesis and functionalization of ring-fused 2-pyridones : Targeting pili formation in E. coli
Sammanfattning : Bicyclic dihydrothiazolo fused 2-pyridones have been studied as a new class of antibacterial agents, termed pilicides, that target the formation of adhesive bacterial surface organelles (pili) in pathogenic bacteria. Synthetic methods to further functionalize the bicyclic 2-pyridone scaffold have been developed in order to increase water-solubility and thereby facilitate biological evalua-tions. LÄS MER
