21. Studies on the cultured human endothelial cell with special regard to clinical applicability
Sammanfattning : The improvement of cardiovascular prosthetic materials, to reduce thrombus formation and inflammatory / immunological reactions, is a clinical challenge. Endothelial cell (EC) seeding using autologous cells to line the luminal surface of prosthetic materials has been suggested. LÄS MER
22. Dietary carbohydrate quality and health : focus on low-grade systemic inflammation and cardiometabolic risk factors
Sammanfattning : Dietary carbohydrate quality, characterized by content of whole grain (WG), dietary fiber, and sugars, is important for human health. Whole grain consumption and cereal fiber can reduce the risk of chronic disorders such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes, an effect partly mediated by alterations in cardiometabolic risk factors and low-grade systemic inflammation. 23. Aspects on the cytokine load in trauma with special reference to blood components and local versus systemic cytokine activity
Sammanfattning : Cytokines and their inhibitors are thought to be involved in many of the pathophysiological changes associated with trauma and infection. Therapeutic measures such as transfusion of blood components could have a bearing on the systemic cytokine load in these conditions. LÄS MER
24. Adipose tissue inflammation and coagulation in humans
Sammanfattning : Background: Adipose tissue (AT) is not only a store of energy but an endocrine organ with capacity to produce and release proinflammatory mediators into the circulation. Obesity is an inflammatory disease, with increased circulating levels of interleukin (IL)-6, due to synthesis in AT. LÄS MER
25. Regulation of TNF-alpha : implications for health and disease
Sammanfattning : Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) is a proinflammatory cytokine, which is implicated in some metabolic disorders and may play a role in the development of cardiovascular disease. When healthy 50-year-old men were studied, the plasma TNF-alpha concentration was associated with systolic and diastolic blood pressure, degree of alimentary lipaemia, plasma VLDL triglyceride and LDL cholesterol concentrations, peak LDL particle size and all measured cell adhesion molecules.
