16. Bacteria and geochemistry in a former uranium open pit mine - mobilization of trace metals
Sammanfattning : In mining areas around the world, chemical and biotic processes have lead to the release of toxic substances, e.g. metals. Microbial processes influence metal speciation, while the chemical environment shapes and controls microbial populations. LÄS MER
17. Nitrogen land-sea fluxes in the Baltic Sea catchment : Empirical relationships and budgets
Sammanfattning : In this thesis empirical relationships and modeling tools are used to describe the relationship between human activities and meso- and large scale riverine N fluxes from land to sea. On a large scale Paper I showed that by only having knowledge about human population size and runoff one can estimate the riverine export of DIN (r2= 0.76). LÄS MER
18. Electronic Properties of Metal Oxide Films Studied by Core Level Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : In this dissertation core level electron spectroscopy has been employed to study various aspects of metal oxide films grown under ultra-high vacuum conditions. Studies on in situ ion insertion of lithium into thin TiO2 systems were performed. LÄS MER
19. Hearing impairment and deafness : genetic and environmental factors - interactions - consequences : a clinical audiological approach
Sammanfattning : OBJECTIVES - Hearing impairment (HI) can be due to genetic or environmental factors, e.g. noise. More than 50% of HI cases are thougt to be hereditary. LÄS MER
20. Environmental and health aspects of corrosion– importance of chemical speciation
Sammanfattning : During the last decades, the interest in corrosion of metals and alloys from an environmental and health perspective has increased rapidly as a consequence of stricter environmental and human exposure legislations, their extensive use as implant materials and an increasing understanding related to occupational and/or daily exposure to airborne particles. Corrosion-induced metal release, however, needs to be understood in detail and to include knowledge related to chemical speciation, i. LÄS MER
