16. Cryptic Female Choice and Male Mating Behaviour : Sexual Interactions in Beetles
Sammanfattning : The importance of cryptic female choice, i.e. female post-copulatory influence over male reproductive success, in driving the evolution of male traits remains controversial. The main aim of this thesis was to understand the post-copulatory consequences of sexual interactions and the importance of cryptic female choice in two species of beetle. LÄS MER
17. Protecting Ecological Integrity in Transboundary Watercourses : An Integrational Approach towards Implementing Environmental Flows
Sammanfattning : The thesis explores the obligation in international law to protect the ecological integrity of transboundary watercourses. The thesis specifically examines the obligation to protect environmental flows, which essentially means to protect a certain water flow for the benefit of freshwater ecosystems and the ecosystem services they supply. 18. Optimal Braking Patterns and Forces in Autonomous Safety-Critical Maneuvers
Sammanfattning : The trend of more advanced driver-assistance features and the development toward autonomous vehicles enable new possibilities in the area of active safety. With more information available in the vehicle about the surrounding traffic and the road ahead, there is the possibility of improved active-safety systems that make use of this information for stability control in safety-critical maneuvers. 19. On-chip electrochemical capacitors and piezoelectric energy harvesters for self-powering sensor nodes
Sammanfattning : On-chip sensing and communications in the Internet of things platform have benefited from the miniaturization of faster and low power complementary-metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) microelectronics. Micro-electromechanical systems technology (MEMS) and development of novel nanomaterials have further improved the performance of sensors and transducers while also demonstrating reduction in size and power consumption.
