  1. 1. In Vivo Active Drug Uptake and Efflux at the Blood-Brain Barrier : With Focus on Drug Transport Interactions

    Författare :Muhammad Waqas Sadiq; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Sven Björkman; N. Joan Abbott; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood-brain barrier; Active uptake transport; Microdialysis; P-glycoprotein; Drug interactions; Species differences; Pharmacokinetics; Pharmacodynamics; NONMEM; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The blood-brain barrier (BBB) controls the movement of substances into and out of the brain. The tight junctions between endothelial cells and energy dependent transporters in the BBB influence rate and extent of drug distribution to the brain. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Antidepressant drug effects in vivo: Focus on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic responses in different experimental paradigms

    Författare :Cecilia Wikell; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; portacaval shunt; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; hepatic encephalopathy; enantiomers; drug safety; drug disposition; citalopram; antidepressants; brain microdialysis; behaviour; venlafaxine; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic activities of the antidepressants venlafaxine (VEN) and citalopram (CIT) were investigated in the portacaval shunted (PCS) rat, a model of chronic hepatic encephalopathy (HE), and normal/control rats. The levels of VEN in serum and brain were higher in PCS rats than in controls after a single injection and chronic treatment with VEN (10 mg/kg). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Enhancing Health Among Drug Users in Prison

    Författare :Anne H. Berman; Ulf Lundberg; Hans Bergman; James McGuire; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; drug use; prison; screening; auricular acupuncture; cognitive-behavioral treatment; psychiatric co-morbidity; existential issues; health; risk management; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Four interrelated studies on drug users in prison are presented within the framework of a proposed model for approaching the enhancement of health for persons that builds on an existential view of prisoners’ needs, as well as the risk management and “good lives” perspectives. Risk management is the major focus in current offender rehabilitation based on research on “what works,” which has shown that focusing treatment on risk factors termed “criminogenic needs,” such as impulsivity, poor family relations and drug abuse, reduces recidivism by 10-15 percentage points. 4. 4. Drug repositioning in chemoprevention of colorectal cancer

    Författare :Naiqi Zhang; Allmänmedicin och klinisk epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Drug repositioning; Colorectal cancer CRC ; Pharmacoepidemiology; Chemoprevention; Melatonin; Proguanil; Atovaquone; Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor SSRI ;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundColorectal cancer (CRC) ranks as the third most frequently occurring cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. In response to the high demand for an effective prevention strategy, chemoprevention, using medications to block the pathogenetic pathways of disease, might be an attractive strategy to offer a more effective option at a low cost. 5. 5. Drug-drug interactions : from knowledge base to clinical impact

    Författare :Marine Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Drug usage has increased steadily, and the more drugs used, the higher the risk for adverse effects or loss of effect due to drug-drug interactions. For drug prescribers it is difficult to know what drugs a patient is taking and whether they interact. LÄS MER
