16. Recurrent Streptococcal Pharyngotonsillitis Studies on etiology and treatment
Sammanfattning : In acute pharyngotonsillitis group A streptococci (GAS) is the etiological agent in 30-50% of cases. Phenoxymethylpenicillin (pcV) is the drug of choice in Sweden. However, the failure rate is as high as 5-25% and further pcV treatment is followed by still higher failure rates. The background of failures remains largely elusive. LÄS MER
17. Substance P Endopeptidase : Purification and Characterizataion of Enzyme Activity and Evaluation of its Function during Stressful Condition
Sammanfattning : The purification and biochemical characterization of the substance P (SP) hydrolyzing enzyme, substance P endopeptidase (SPE), have been carried out; with subsequent orientation in neurobiological fundamental processes involved in opioid dependence, withdrawal, and heat-stress.SPE was purified from rat spinal cord, human spinal cord and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), rat ventral tegemental area (VTA), and rat hippocampus. 18. Identification of new disease mechanisms and treatments for type 2 diabetes based on genetic variants and gene expression networks
Sammanfattning : Improved understanding of the disease mechanisms underlying type 2 diabetes (T2D) is needed, and so are new treatments.A new T2D risk variant was recently identified in ADRA2A, which encodes the α2A-adrenergic receptor. LÄS MER
19. Arcanobacterium haemolyticum, clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects
Sammanfattning : In an 18-month period all throat cultures in our laboratory were examined for Arcanobacterium haemolyticum and clinical information was obtained. The great majority of the patients suffered from pharyngitis or tonsillitis, accompanied by a rash in 46% of cases. One third of the patients had a history of recurrent tonsillitis. LÄS MER
20. New strategies and tools for Plasmodium falciparum case management and surveillance in the era of imminent resistance to artemisinin-based combination therapy in Tanzania
Sammanfattning : Artemether-lumefantrine has been an efficacious first line treatment for uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Tanzania since its introduction in 2006. Interest has developed in understanding the observation of high residual PCR determined positivity rates on day 3 after supervised artemether-lumefantrine treatment in the magnitude of almost 30% in previous assessments from 2015 in Bagamoyo district, Tanzania.
