  1. 16. Recurrent Streptococcal Pharyngotonsillitis Studies on etiology and treatment

    Författare :Arne Orrling; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; Infektioner; Otorhinolaryngology; Infections; Clindamycin.; Penicillin tolerance; Tonsillar surface fluid; treatment failure; Group A streptococci; hörsel- och talorganen; audiologi; audiology; Recurrent streptococcal pharyngotonsillitis;

    Sammanfattning : In acute pharyngotonsillitis group A streptococci (GAS) is the etiological agent in 30-50% of cases. Phenoxymethylpenicillin (pcV) is the drug of choice in Sweden. However, the failure rate is as high as 5-25% and further pcV treatment is followed by still higher failure rates. The background of failures remains largely elusive. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Improved understanding of the disease mechanisms underlying type 2 diabetes (T2D) is needed, and so are new treatments.A new T2D risk variant was recently identified in ADRA2A, which encodes the α2A-adrenergic receptor. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Arcanobacterium haemolyticum, clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects

    Författare :Mats Nyman; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; phenotypic characteristics.; penicillin tolerance; antibiotic susceptibility; antibody reaction; exanthema; Arcanobacterium haemolyticum; pharyngitis; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : In an 18-month period all throat cultures in our laboratory were examined for Arcanobacterium haemolyticum and clinical information was obtained. The great majority of the patients suffered from pharyngitis or tonsillitis, accompanied by a rash in 46% of cases. One third of the patients had a history of recurrent tonsillitis. LÄS MER

  5. 20. New strategies and tools for Plasmodium falciparum case management and surveillance in the era of imminent resistance to artemisinin-based combination therapy in Tanzania

    Författare :Lwidiko E Mhamilawa; Andreas Mårtensson; Billy Ngasala; Ulrika Morris; Ib Christian Bygbjerg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; artemether-lumefantrine; drug resistance; Tanzania; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Artemether-lumefantrine has been an efficacious first line treatment for uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Tanzania since its introduction in 2006. Interest has developed in understanding the observation of high residual PCR determined positivity rates on day 3 after supervised artemether-lumefantrine treatment in the magnitude of almost 30% in previous assessments from 2015 in Bagamoyo district, Tanzania.
