  1. 1. Light conditions in seasonally ice-covered waters : within the Baltic Sea region

    Författare :Elina Kari; Susanne Kratzer; Matti Leppäranta; Monika Winder; Tiit Kutser; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seasonal sea ice; Fast ice; Drift ice; Phytoplankton spring bloom; Under-ice plume; Turbidity; Suspended particulate matter; Chlorophyll; Coloured dissolved organic matter; Baltic Sea; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Seasonal ice cover is a major driver of seasonality in aquatic ecosystems in the Baltic Sea region. Ice cover influences the underwater light conditions directly by limiting the light transfer and indirectly by modifying the mixing and circulation under the ice. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Spaceborne SAR in Sea Ice Monitoring: Algorithm Development and Validation for the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Anders Berg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; synthetic aperture radar; ice drift; sea ice; ice type; ice concentration;

    Sammanfattning : The usefulness of new spaceborne synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) sensors at L-, C-, and X-band for operational sea ice monitoring in the Baltic Sea has been evaluated. It is concluded that the information content in C-band and X-band data is largely equivalent, although larger spatial coverage is an advantage of the current C-band satellites. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ridged sea ice modelling in climate applications

    Författare :Sebastian Mårtensson; Markus Meier; Kristofer Döös; Peter A. Lundberg; Frank Kauker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic ocean; Baltic Sea; sea ice; ice dynamics; numerical modelling; climate; ice deformation; ice compression; physical and biogeochemical interactions; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : This work aims to increase our understanding of the nature of large scale features of sea ice from a dynamics point of view.Sea ice plays an important part in the exchange of heat and humidity between sea and air and thus is an important component of the climate system. 4. 4. A systems approach to ice loads on concrete dams

    Författare :Rikard Hellgren; Richard Malm; Anders Ansell; Erik Nordström; Pierre Legér; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ice loads; Ice pressure; Dam safety; Concrete dams; Cold regions; Monitoring; Measurements; Concrete Structures; Betongbyggnad;

    Sammanfattning : Dams are mainly used for the storage of water to electricity production and irrigation, or for river regulation. Continuous work to assure a high dam safety level is a prerequisite to minimize the risk for the uncontrolled release of water. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Salmonid behaviour under winter conditions

    Författare :Johan Watz; Larry Greenberg; Eva Bergman; John Piccolo; Richard Cunjak; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; drift; energy budget; foraging; grayling; ice cover; lotic; metabolic rate; predation; salmon; stream; stress; temperature; trout; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Winter conditions are believed to play an important role in the population dynamics of northern temperate stream fish, challenging the ability of fish to physiologically and behaviourally adapt. Climate change is predicted to increase both mean temperature and temperature fluctuations, especially during winter, leading to dynamic environmental conditions in terms of river ice production and flow.
