This creature balancing on the border between nature and culture, simultaneously included in and excluded from a human “we”, is the focus of this thesis. 3. Maktfyllda möten i medicinska rum: debatt, kunskap och praktik i svensk förlossningsvård 1960-1985
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze debates around and changes in knowledge production and medical practices of childbirth between 1960 and 1985 in Sweden. The roles of the different actors involved, such as physicians, midwives, the National Board of Health and Welfare, the women’s movement and politicians are studied in four main contexts: medical practice and debate, the Swedish Parliament, women’s movement and the more general debate, as reflected in the media. Sammanfattning : With behavioural genetic twin- and animal-studies as a point of departure, this thesis investigates how the polyphonic talk about genes creates certain conditions for how “human behaviour” can be constructed, how the politics of boundary fixing contributes to and undermines respectively, credible narratives about human behaviour and, in the extension, about what constitutes human-ness. Furthermore, sociology is used as a sounding board in order to investigate what behavioural genetic knowledge can promote in terms of sociological insights and vice versa. LÄS MER

To approach this question the practice-led material driven research explores dynamic ecological relations and processes of thinking and practicing.
