1. Some factors affecting the amount of residual phase lignin during kraft pulping
Sammanfattning : The amount of lignin which needs to be removed according to the slow residual delignification phase in kraft pulping, i e residual phase lignin, has been studied as a function of the process conditions. The variebles studied were the concentrations of hydroxide ions, hydrogensulfide ions, sodium ions (ionic strength) and temperature. LÄS MER
2. Chemical Processes at the Water-Manganite (γ-MnOOH) Interface
Sammanfattning : The chemistry of mineral surfaces is of great importance in many different areas including natural processes occurring in oceans, rivers, lakes and soils. Manganese (hydr)oxides are one important group to these natural processes, and the thermodynamically most stable trivalent manganese (hydr)oxide, manganit (γ-MnOOH), is studied in this thesis. 3. Nucleoside phosphoramidates and related compounds : development of synthetic methods based on H-phosphonate chemistry
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, studies directed towards development of new synthetic methods for the preparation of nucleotide analogues of potential medical value as antisense, antigene or antiviral agents, are described. Two methods for synthesis of N3'->P5' and P3'->N5' phosphoramidate analogues with the nitrogen atom in bridging position of the internucleotide linkage was developed. 4. Sorption and Surface Complexation of Plutonium
Sammanfattning : Plutonium is a constituent of spent nuclear fuel. As such, its behavior in contact with the surfaces of solids is of interest. This behavior will affect the migration of plutonium in case it is released into the environment. The chemistry of plutonium is rather complex. LÄS MER
5. Correlated materials : models and methods
Sammanfattning : This thesis encompass a series of studies on methods and models for electron systems with local interactions, relevant for correlated materials. The first study focus on the canonical model for local correlation, the Hubbard model. LÄS MER
