1. Data driven crop disease modeling
Sammanfattning : The concept of precision farming deals with the creation and use of data from machinery and sensors on and off the field to optimize resources and sustainably intensify food production to keep up with increasing demand. However, in the face of a growing amount of data being collected, smarter data processing and analysis techniques are needed and have prompted the evaluation and incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques for multiple use cases right from seeding to harvesting. 2. Spatial Spread of Organisms : Modeling ecological and epidemiological processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the spread of organisms in both ecological and epidemiological contexts. In most of the studies presented, displacement is modeled with a spatial kernel function, which is characterized by scale and shape. These are measured by the net squared displacement (or kernel variance) and kurtosis, respectively. LÄS MER
3. Imaging and modeling the cardiovascular system
Sammanfattning : Understanding cardiac pumping function is crucial to guiding diagnosis, predicting outcomes of interventions, and designing medical devices that interact with the cardiovascular system. Computer simulations of hemodynamics can show how the complex cardiovascular system is influenced by changes in single or multiple parameters and can be used to test clinical hypotheses. LÄS MER
4. Modeling Amyloid Disease in Drosophila melanogaster
Sammanfattning : Amyloid diseases are caused by protein misfolding and aggregation. To date there are 27 known proteins causing amyloid disorders involving brain and peripheral protein deposition. The proteins involved in this mechanism do not share sequence homology, but the amyloid fibrils share biophysical properties and possibly a common pathogenic mechanism. LÄS MER
5. Cattle Shipments and Disease Spread Modeling
Sammanfattning : Spread of transboundary animal diseases can have large impact on animal welfare, public health and economy. The effects of this include economic losses in terms of lower milk production, lower weight gain and culling due to welfare concerns. LÄS MER
