  1. 1. Disruption of vitamin A metabolism by dioxin

    Författare :Pi Högberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :TCDD; dioxin; vitamin A; retinoic acid; cellular retinol-binding protein; bone;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin A (retinoids) is a nutrient that plays a central role in development and remains essential for cell growth and differentiation throughout life. Dioxins are polychlorinated organic pollutants known to negatively affect the storage and body clearance of retinoids. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effects of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin on vitamin A storage in rat hepatic stellate cells

    Författare :Annika Hanberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Dioxin; TCDD; vitamin A; retinoids; lecithin:retinol acyltransferase; absorption; stellate celL hepatic vitamin A accumulation; intestinal lymph collectionDoctoral Thesis 1996 Annika Hanberg;

    Sammanfattning : The polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), popularly called dioxins, are persistent pollutants with widespread occurrence in the environment as well as in human food and tissues. 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD), the most toxic dioxin, as well as other dioxin-like compounds induce a broad spectrum of biochemical and toxic effects, many of which occur at extremely low doses or concentrations. 3. 3. Studies on the effects of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin on vitamin A homeostasis

    Författare :Charlotte Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :TCDD; dioxin; vitamin A; retinoic acid; lecithin:retinol acyltransferase; retinyl ester hydrolysis; retinol-binding protein; kidney; lymph; stellate cell; kinetics; model-based compartmental analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin A (retinoids) is needed for normal vision, growth, reproduction, cell differentiation, embryonic development, and immune function. Retinoids exert their functions in the same way as classical hormones, as transcription factors acting via nuclear receptors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) disrupts vitamin A homeostasis in rodents : quantitative and mechanistic studies to support risk assessment

    Författare :Nick Fletcher; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) exposure is well-known to disrupt Vitamin A (retinoid) homeostasis in rats, resulting in decreased hepatic storage, as well as increased metabolism and excretion of retinoids. The aims of this thesis were (1) to clarify the species and strain sensitivity of TCDDinduced retinoid disruption and (2) to identify cellular targets of TCDD-induced retinoid disruption. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Organohalogen environmental pollutants in Baltic fish : chemical characterization and toxicological evaluation with a focus on bone disturbances

    Författare :Natalia Stern; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The present study was initiated due to concern about toxicological consequences associated with the exposure to persistent organic pollutants (POPs) via the consumption of Baltic fish. In Sweden, fish from the Baltic Sea is a major dietary source of POPs but also an important source of essential nutrients. LÄS MER
