1. Diffusion in Bone Tissue
Sammanfattning : In order to prevent or modify the processes of bone degeneration the modeling and remodeling of bone tissue must be better understood. In this thesis it is assumed that the primary condition leading to bone growth is a change of the chemical environment caused by transport of matter resulting from stress driven diffusion. LÄS MER
2. On the determination of diffusion coefficients in bone
Sammanfattning : Diffusion in bone is needed for bone remodeling and bone healing. Understanding the phenomenon is often important for comprehension bone diseases. Mathematical modeling of the diffusion processes is a required prerequisite in the study of this important physical process in living bone tissue. LÄS MER
3. Hydrogen in nano-sized metals : Diffusion and hysteresis effects
Sammanfattning : Metal hydrides can be used as hydrogen storage materials for fuel cells and batteries, and as sensors for detecting hydrogen gas. The use of metal hydrides for hydrogen storage can be hindered by poor kinetics and low capacity. Moreover, poor sensitivity, long recovery and response time, limit the applications of metal hydrides as hydrogen sensors. LÄS MER
4. Diffusion studies in gels using holographic laser interferometry
Sammanfattning : This thesis is an investigation of the potential of holographic laser interferometry for the study of diffusion of both small solutes and macromolecules. An investigation on the importance of errors due to light deflection in refarctive index gradients showed that the magnitude of the refractive index gradients were negligible for the system investigated. 5. Modeling of Hindered Diffusion in Gels
Sammanfattning : Hindered diffusion occurs in the most different processes, as has been described in this thesis. It is very important to have an understanding of the influence of hindered diffusion on the mass transfer rate, especially when competing rate processes are acting simultaneously. LÄS MER
