6. Optical Methods for Tympanic Membrane Characterisation : Towards Objective Otoscopy in Otitis Media
Sammanfattning : Otitis media, which is an upper respiratory tract infection that affect the middle ear, is the second most common disease in childhood, outnumbered in prevalence only by the common cold. Diagnosis of middle ear inflammation is often performed in the primary healthcare where the normal procedure involves anamnesis and physical examination of the tympanic membranes (TM) of the patient, usually be means of otoscopy. 7. Novel Diagnostic Tools for Skin and Periorbital Cancer - Exploring Photoacoustic Imaging and Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : The eyelids are susceptible to a number of skin cancers which are challenging to excise radically without sacrificing excessive healthy tissue. The way in which a tumor is delineated preoperatively has not changed significantly over the past century. LÄS MER
8. Exhaust aftertreatment under lean conditions, regenerable SOx traps and NOx reduction catalysts
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate i) potential materials for regenerable SOx traps and ii) the influence of silver distribution within Ag/Al2O3 catalysts on the selective reduction of NOx by hydrocarbons (HC-SCR). Both areas are highly relevant for present and future vehicle aftertreatment technologies for lean exhausts. LÄS MER
9. Studies on Polarised Light Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis project focuses on measurements of dermal microcirculation during vascular provocations with polarised light spectroscopy. This is done with a non-invasive method commercially available as Tissue viability imaging (TiVi) which measures concentration and oxygenation of red blood cells in the papillary dermis. LÄS MER
10. Spectroscopic characterisation of surface hydroxyls during catalytic methane oxidation
Sammanfattning : Implementation of methane rich fuels as to develop sustainable vehicle transports requires improved catalytic exhaust aftertreatment technologies to convert engine-out methane emissions to carbon dioxide and water by total oxidation. A main challenge is that water formed during combustion inhibits the methane oxidation reaction even over the most active palladium-based catalysts presently known. LÄS MER
