11. Late Cenozoic Geoarchives from Lake Baikal, Siberia
Sammanfattning : Three long sediment cores (BDP-98 – 600 m, BDP-96 – 200 m and BDP-93 – 100 m) drilled in Lake Baikal (Siberia) have been studied with the aims of establishing an absolute chronology and reconstructing paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental changes in the region. The location of the lake at relatively high latitude and continental interior and a thick continuous sedimentary archive that developed in a rift system tectonic setting provide unique material for this investigation. 12. Diatom-rich sediment formation in lakes
Sammanfattning : Unicellular photosynthetic golden algae called diatoms are one of the most abundant silicifying organisms. Diatoms take up silicon and build their frustules, in the form of biogenic silica (BSi), which have high preservation potential, and thus are found in sediments. LÄS MER
13. Provenance of late Paleozoic and Mesozoic clastic sediments of Taimyr and their significance for understanding Arctic tectonics
Sammanfattning : The Taimyr Peninsula is a key element in the circum-Arctic region and represents the northern margin of the Siberian Craton. The Taimyr Peninsula preserves late Paleozoic through Mesozoic clasitic sedimentary successions in its Mesozoic fold belt, providing an ideal location to investigate the Mesozoic tectonic evolution associated with the opening of Amerasia Basin within a circum-Arctic framework. 14. Precambrian Crustal Evolution of the Rehoboth Province, Southern Africa
Sammanfattning : This thesis uses U-Pb, Sm-Nd Lu-Hf, Ar-Ar and Oxygen isotope data on well-documented rock samples, to investigate crustal evolution of the Precambrian Rehoboth Province of Southern Africa. This province is defined by its smooth magnetic character, reflecting deep magnetic basement in contrast to the adjoining mobile belts and the Kaapvaal Craton. LÄS MER
15. The importance of terrestrial carbon in plankton food webs
Sammanfattning : Allochthonous substances, i.e. produced in terrestrial ecosystems, are known to fuel bacterial production in humic lakes. I observed that allochthonous carbon subsidizes bacteria even at high levels of phytoplankton biomass. LÄS MER
