  1. 16. Towards automated conceptual design space exploration

    Författare :Jakob Müller; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering Design; Model Abstraction; Function Modelling; Knowledge Based Engineering; Model Based Design; Function-Means Modelling; Geometry Modelling; Design Space Exploration; Product Development; Systems Engineering; Design Automation; Aerospace;

    Sammanfattning : In mature and safety-concerned industries, such as the aerospace industry, product development is often incremental and design solutions are limited to improvements of an existing design. Radical changes to the known product architecture are avoided, for reasons of reliability, lack of technology or lack of design space exploration (DSE) methods. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Agency and Artefacts : A cognitive semiotic exploration of design

    Författare :Juan Mendoza-Collazos; Kognitiv semiotik; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Agency; enhanced agency; agency hierarchy; derived agency; material agency; intentionality; prior intentions; intentions in action; pictorial representations; artefacts; tool-making; design theory; design semiotics; design research; phenomenology; cognitive semiotics; agentive semiotics; semiotic hierarchy; 4E cognition; bio-cultural evolution; philosophy of design; philosophy of technology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the role of artefacts in relation to human agency and design within a cognitive semiotics framework. It deals with questions such as What is agency? What are artefacts and how does agency relate to them? What kind of intentions are involved in the activity of designing? What is human-specific with respect to agency and design? How can the origins and evolution of design be explained? Addressing these questions, the thesis proposes a layered model of agency for explaining the relations between different grades of agentive complexity. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Devices. On Hospitality, Hostility and Design

    Författare :Martin Avila; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Device; hospitality; hostility; design; languaging; accident; ecology; symbiosis; autopoiesis; umwelt; Device;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis studies and speculates upon the interrelations of artefacts with human and nonhuman agents. These interrelations form assemblages, some of which have emergent properties, becoming manifestations of processes that we cannot fully control or understand. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Textile Influence : exploring the relationship between textiles and products in the design process

    Författare :Linnéa Nilsson; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Smart textiles; textile print; thermo chromic print; dynamic patterns; material composites; complexity; design practice; design tools; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Sammanfattning : Textile materials and textile design are a part of countless products in our surroundings,as well as diverse design fields and industries, each of which has very different materialtraditions and working methods. The aim of this thesis is to add to our understandingof the relationship between textiles and products in the design process, and to explorehow textiles enter and influence product design processes and how products functionin textile design processes. 5. 20. Acts of seeing : seeing as a methodological tool in fashion design

    Författare :Stefanie Malmgren de Oliveira; Ricarda Bigolin; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Seeing; fashion design process; methods; ideation; aesthetic goal; Textil och mode generell ; Textiles and Fashion General ;

    Sammanfattning : Fashion design can be described as perpetually having to produce new suggestions of dress. The foundational tool for realising such propositions in a precise and focused way is the act of seeing. LÄS MER
