1. Chemical Derivatization in Combination with Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry for Detection and Structural Investigation of Glucuronides
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents novel approaches for structural investigation of glucuronides using chemical derivatization in combination with liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MSn).Today, LC-ESI-MSn is the dominant technique for quantitative as well as qualitative analyses of metabolites, due to its high sensitivity and selectivity. 2. Development and Application of Software Tools for Mass Spectrometry Imaging
Sammanfattning : Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) has been extensively used to produce qualitative maps of distributions of proteins, peptides, lipids, neurotransmitters, small molecule pharmaceuticals and their metabolites directly in biological tissue sections. Moreover, during the last 10 years, there has been growing demand to quantify target compounds in tissue sections of various organs. LÄS MER
3. Mass-spectrometry based survey of BMAA sources, distribution and transfer
Sammanfattning : β-methylaminoalanine (BMAA) is a neurotoxic non-protein amino acid first isolated from cycad seeds in 1967. It is believed to be connected to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and is a ubiquitous compound produced by cyanobacteria, diatoms and dinoflagellates. 5. Orientation and Conformation of Single Macromolecules on Unmodified and Functionalized Surfaces
Sammanfattning : In this thesis methods for investigation of orientation and conformation of individual macromolecules on surfaces are presented as well as novel methods for functionalization of silicon chips with the possibility to get an ordered immobilization of antibodies. Two novel methods are presented which makes it possible to investigate the orientation of individual macromolecules on different kinds of surfaces with AFM. LÄS MER
