  1. 1. Colloidal interactions obtained from total internal reflection microscopy measurements and scattering data

    Författare :Moheb Nayeri; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; total internal reflection microscopy; colloidal stability; van der Waals interaction; Debye length; surfactants; depletion; scattering; colloidal stability;

    Sammanfattning : The scattering of radiation can be used to extract information about the interactions between colloidal (10^{-7}-10^{-3} cm radius) particles suspended in liquids. As colloidal interactions incorporate entropic effects they are weak and while system specific they are governed by a number of general mechanisms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Polymer Mediated Surface Forces

    Författare :Martin Turesson; Beräkningskemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyelectrolyte Solutions; Charge Inversion; Monte Carlo Simulations; Depletion Stabilization; Correlation Attraction; Colloid stability;

    Sammanfattning : The issue of controlling the stability between colloidal particles in solution is important, at least for industrial applications, relying on efficient flocculation or stable dispersions. The objective of this thesis is to shed some light on fundamental mechanisms behind the interplay between attractive and repulsive forces, in solutions containing colloids and polymers. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nuclear envelope protein interaction studies

    Författare :Mohammed Hakim Jaffer Ali; Einar Hallberg; Anki Östlund-Farrants; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Samp1; Nuclear envelope; protein interactions; chemical crosslinking; proteomics; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Sammanfattning : The nuclear envelope (NE) separating the nucleoplasm from cytoplasm consists of two concentric lipid membranes, the outer (ONM) and inner (INM) nuclear membranes, the nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) and an underlying nuclear lamina network. The INM contains more than 100 unique transmembrane proteins of which only a few have been characterized. LÄS MER

  4. 4. General stress proteins: Novel function and signals for induction of stationary phase genes in E.coli

    Författare :Örjan Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; general stress response; universal stress protein; sigma S; DNA damage; fructose-6-phosphate; ruvC;

    Sammanfattning : Survival during conditions when nutrients become scarce requires adaptation and expression of genes for maintenance in order for the cell to survive. Among the numerous proteins involved in adaptation and regulation under these conditions, the stationary phase sigma factor, σS, and the Universal stress proteins contribute to survival and bestow the cell with general stress protective functions during growth arrest. 5. 5. Energy metabolism and angiogenesis in atherosclerosis and cancer

    Författare :Matias Ekstrand; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Energy metabolism; Hypoxia; Reactive oxygen species; Intussusceptive angiogenesis;

    Sammanfattning : Energy metabolism requires supply of glucose and oxygen. In atherosclerotic plaques and cancer tumors, there are local areas with mismatch in demand and supply of oxygen and nutrients. The resulting cellular energy imbalance may promote energy failure and stimulation of angiogenesis. LÄS MER
