  1. 1. Health implications of dental amalgam

    Författare :Aron Naimi-Akbar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Dental amalgam is one of the most widely used, but also the most controversial of dental restorative materials. Since its introduction during the first half of the 19th century, concerns have been raised about health hazards related to the toxicity of a major component of amalgam, mercury. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pharmacokinetics of mercury from dental amalgam

    Författare :Gunilla Sandborgh Englund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human; dental amalgam; mercury; blood; plasma; urine; saliva; feces; pharmacokinetics; kidney; chelating agents.;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present work has been to obtain quantitative and qualitative data on mercury from dental amalgam in humans. The influence of amalgam removal on mercury levels in blood, plasma and urine has been studied in twelve volunteers. All amalgam fillings were removed during one dental session. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Clinical aspects of restorative treatment in the primary dentition

    Sammanfattning : The failure rate of restorative treatment in primary teeth was studied in a cohort of children born in 1981 and related to caries diagnosis, prevalence and distribution on different tooth surfaces, and compared with a cohort of children born in 1971. Concurrently, the longevity of composite resin in modified Class 2 cavities in primary molars was followed up and the resistance of deciduous and permanent enamel to acid adjacent to composite resin and glass polyalkeonate cement (GPA) was tested in vitro. Sammanfattning : This dissertation in the history of science and ideas studies the Swedish dental amalgam controversy in the late 20th century. Sammanfattning : Amalgam has been used as a dental restorative material for centuries, but its potential health effects and biopersistance has lead to a decreased use especially in the Nordic countries. New materials have been introduced, partly to replace the mercury containing amalgam and partly because of esthetical reasons. LÄS MER
