1. Experimental Studies of Primary Break-up of Diesel Engine Fuel Injector Sprays
Sammanfattning : This thesis will focus on experimental studies of primary breakup of pressure-atomized sprays. The industrial application that this thesis will address is fuel sprays in modern Diesel engines, and so the focus will be sprays emitting into relatively slow-moving, high pressure, high-temperature gases. 2. Temporally gated imaging for investigation of atomizing sprays
Sammanfattning : Fuel sprays play an important role in the combustion process of modern compression ignition engines, but their dynamics are not well understood. This thesis focuses on time-gated imaging techniques as a means to study the optically dense spray formation region of these atomizing sprays. LÄS MER
3. Interior Flow and Formation of Plain Orifice Sprays
Sammanfattning : This thesis will summarize recent experimental observations of spray formation in highly atomizing plainorifce sprays, the kind commonly produced by fuel injectors in compression ignition internal combustionengines. Two special interactions will be addressed in detail: primary atomization under elevated ambientpressures and temperatures and orifce ow effects on primary atomization. LÄS MER
4. Droplet size, concentration, and temperature mapping in sprays using SLIPI-based techniques
Sammanfattning : Structured laser illumination planar imaging (SLIPI) is a technique capable of suppressing multiple light scattering effects in optically dense sprays, resulting in spray images without blurs and with enhanced contrast. The novelty of the work presented in this thesis concerns the applications of a variety of SLIPI-based techniques for the measurement of droplet size, droplet concentration, and liquid temperature in atomizing sprays. 5. Optical diagnostics of Soot in optically dense sprays
Sammanfattning : Soot diagnostics in engines can be carried out with optical methods that have the potentialfor high temporal and spatial resolution. Some of these methods were appliedto study diesel spray combustion in the Chalmers High Pressure, High Temperature(HP/HT) spray rig. LÄS MER
